Mandy Moore in Chopard

On Sunday, Feb. 27, swarms of celebrities turned out to the Kodak Theater in Hollywood for the 83rd annual Academy Awards. Lavish gowns stylish tuxedoes pierced the red carpet. And while we were certainly fascinated by the garments of choice worn by A-listers, were also noticed that many were spotted wearing luxury jewelry and watches by Chopard, one of the world’s most coveted luxury brands.

Mandy Moore, who performed a song from her animated feature film, Tangled wearing a pair of pave round diamond earrings set in yellow gold and a 10-carat rose cut and pear shape diamond ring with diamond 3-carat micropave in yellow gold;

And while many stars attended the awards, there were just as many who chose to instead watch the show across town from the 19th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party. Chopard helped sponsor the event, giving both the atmosphere and the stars a little added panache and pizzazz.

Of course, the evening’s host, Sir Elton John, along with his co-host David Furnish, each sported Chopard watches.

Other guests included Chopard Co-President and Artistic Director, Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele (pictured above with Heidi Klum), who donned Chopard’s 105-carat icy quartz briolette earrings set in white gold and a 50-carat Animal World sting ray purple sapphire bracelet in white gold.

The newest spot is Hand & Stone massage, an oasis offering a variety of massage options as well as facials tailored to women, men and teens. The new Hand & Stone is operated by local Shahira Raineri, whose mission is to make Hand & Stone synonymous with luxury treatments in Orange County.  For over two decades, Raineri has been in the corporate world, but her desire were more close to health and wellness than number crunching, leading her to bring the Hand & Stone brand to Orange County.

“I want to promote a healthy lifestyle and the benefits of self wellness,” said Raineri.  According to Raineri, many spas fail to educate consumers on the lasting health benefits of massage. “Most consumers don’t understand that consistent massage can help reduce pain, strengthen the immune system, and increase flexibility among other benefits.  While people might come initially to relax, they will subscribe because our experienced massage therapists work with them to help improve their particular health concerns.”

Hautels: Afternoon Tea at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel
by Kate Dempsey Stouffer

Recently I received an invitation to a tea tasting event at Finale bakery. This was something new to me, and felt so Bostonian that I was all set to go before remembering I had conflicting plans that night. A little online research led me to discover that I could still taste some tea on my own. Inside the Swan Cafe at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel, you will find Cynthia Gold, one of the world’s few tea sommeliers, and the same connoisseur whose tea tasting and book signing I had to miss. Gold oversees the Park Plaza’s afternoon tea and is currently promoting her book, Culinary Tea: More Than 150 Recipes Steeped in Tradition from Around the World. The book, as well as the tasting experience at the Park Plaza hotel, focuses not only on the contents of tea cups, but also on cocktails and incorporating tea into fine cuisine.

Culinary Tea book

The more I learned the more interested I became, so I made a reservation and asked my friends to come along. I was admittedly ignorant to the world of tea sommeliers, tea cocktails, and tea cuisine. But of all places, Boston would be the place to open my eyes, infuse some knowledge, and discover that sommeliers aren’t just for wine anymore. And for that matter, the afternoon tea of our mother’s and grandmother’s era isn’t what it used to be. In a city famous for its tea bash back in the 1700s, Boston has emerged as a trendsetter in a re-emerging social scene: the tea party.

The afternoon tea menu includes unique blends created by Cynthia Gold exclusively for the Park Plaza Hotel. She expertly advised us to start out with a lighter blend and work our way to the stronger tastes. Of the five varieties we sipped, our favorite ended up being the first, The Park Plaza Spring Blossom. In between pots of tea we sampled scones and delicious open-faced tea sandwiches, which, to our delight, also incorporated tea! The tea cured salmon with matcha wasabi cream, and tea grilled chicken with cilantro and mango were our favorite finger sandwiches.  For dessert: tea infused crème brule and port wine. Everything was sophisticated and creative, from the tea blends to the food presentation. For more information and to arrange a tea tasting with Cynthia Gold, visit the Boston Park Plaza’s website. Other hot spots for tea include the Taj Boston and the Ritz Carlton. Make your next get together a tea party!

Save the Date: Neville Wakefield Curates Involuntary Exhibit at fordPROJECT for VIP Launch of The Armory Show
by HauteLiving

Olympia Scarry, Untitled (Yawn), 2011

As the 2011 New York Armory Show braces for the art and creative frenzy to flock to the city; studios, museums and galleries are gearing up for an increase in well-heeled foot traffic. Buyers, critics and enthusiasts should investigate what is sure to be one of the most unsettling shows likely to hit town: Involuntary (opening March 2) at the recently opened, fordPROJECT. The exclusive vernissage kicks off The Armory Fair’s VIP program and is invite-only—so expect the art glitterati to attend in full force.

Curated by the reputable Neville Wakefield, Involuntary, presents a series of works that respond to the history of the penthouse space occupied by fordPROJECT. Wakefield claims he was inspired by 57 West 57th Street’s sadistic and disquieting past when it came to curate the show. And it’s a space with quite the intriguing tale to tell: Legends and events range from sexual infatuation to violence, murder and even paranormal activity.

One piece titled, “Wish you were here,” by artist Scott Campbell, is a tombstone positioned on the 19th floor terrace near the parapet wall over which Edna Crawford Champion’s lover, Charles Brazelle, was thrown to his death by bodyguards after he bludgeoned her with a telephone. How cheery!

Another curious creation, Michael Sailstorfer’s Reactor, is a sound art installation with a speaker attached to a microphone that has been embedded in concrete. The speaker will record the sonic imprint of the building (allegedly haunted since the murders) and its psychic resonance.

In the photo department, are eerie photographic portraits by Miranda Lichtenstein, which depict various states of emotional extremis; and works by Naama Tsabar that bring into play the intoxications that accompanied the catastrophic “playground of sex and drugs that Champion and Brazelle created.”

Wakefield and fordPROJECT will also bring performance art into the mix, with Eloise Fornieles’ portrayal of the apparent dementia and meltdown that befell the subsequent owners of the space on 57 West 57th Street.

“Sex, violence and a certain kind of excess are written into the fabric of the building and the exhibition is a reflection of that innate story,” said a statement from fordPROJECT. Other works catering to these themes include: intensely erotic films of desire and glut by Mike Bouchet; a battering ram purposely suspended from the gallery ceiling, which marks the destruction of barriers between public and private; and a series of forensically-photographed, intimate self-portraits by Olympia Scarry capturing involuntary acts (such as yawning) that are peculiarly sexualized.

Neville Wakefield most recently curated MoMA PS1’s Greater New York (2010) show and Matthew Barney’s major exhibition at the Schaulager. He has served as the senior curatorial advisor for MoMA PS1 and as curator of Frieze Projects at the illustrious Frieze Art Fair in London. Neville currently contributes to publications such as ArtForum and W Magazine.

fordPROJECT launched in January 2011 as an exclusive gallery space designed for site-specific installations, exhibitions, artist commissions, art collectives, curatorial programs, collaborative initiatives, unique events and more. Under the direction of Rachel Vancelette and Tim Goossens, fordPROJECT seeks to present a distinctive alternative to the traditional fine art models and will offer innovation for artists, curators, collectors, organizations, institutions and estates.

A special VIP viewing and brunch with the curator, will take place on March 4 in association with The Armory Show. Involuntary will run through April 15.

Haute Style: Mara Roszak Makes Waves for Mila Kunis

Even though last night’s Oscars are being subjected to some criticism, we remained kind and found beauty in other aspects, such as Mila Kunis’ Grecian-inspired updo created by Los Angeles-based TRESemmé celebrity stylist, Mara Roszak.

Currently a member of the team at the prestigious Andy Lecompte Salon, Roszak came into her own after winning over the heart (and the locks) of one of Hollywood’s most beloved sweethearts, Sarah Michelle Gellar, when she was just 17 years old. Since then, she has built an impressive A-list roster of devoted burgeoning beauties, including Zoe Saldana, Zooey Deschanel, Emma Stone, and Ms. Kunis herself.

Utterly enamored with her work and her signature, feminine waves, we took a moment to learn how to recreate Kunis’ Oscars Chignon—an accomplishment we definitely think deserves an award:

1. First, apply TRESemmé Naturals Mousse to wet hair and dry it, parting the hair to one side.

2. With a 1” barrel curling iron, curl your hair away from your face in sections. Brush out the curled sections of your hair with fingertips and form an “S” wave around the face.

3. Pull hair softly into a messy chignon, then spray it all over with TRESemmé Naturals Finishing Spray for a soft-hold finish.

Andy Lecompte Salon is located at 616 N Almont Dr., Los Angeles, 310.273.4100.

Haute Fashion: Hidden Vintage Gem – C Madeleine’s Miami

Attention all stylists, fashionistas, photographers, and socialites, if you are looking for a vintage shop or shall I say a 10,000-square-foot space filled with beautiful vintage clothing, shoes, and accessories spanning from the 1900s, C Madeleine’s is where its at! Trust me there’s a lot to choose from. This vintage heaven is located in North Miami and is considered the grande dame of them all.

I discovered C Madeleine’s in 2003 while attending Florida International University, which is just a few miles north of the vintage dynasty. When I walked in, I was completely speechless! I was in awe of not only the large space, but the staff and of course the designs such as vintage Chanel, Emilio Pucci, Lacoste, Ungaro, Versace, Givenchy, Fendi, Lanvin, Pierre Cardin, and the list goes on… From that moment on, I knew this was a place that I was not only lucky to find but that it was something special.

According to C Madeleine’s owner Madeleine Kirsh, she opened her first store in Palm Beach County  in 1998. Madeleine’s following and reputation had been built on her impressive skills as an interior designer which she learned much from her mom and her own experience. It wasn’t long after that Madeleine would get the bright idea to combine her interior designer skills with her inevitable knowledge of fashion.  As this progressed,  she  quickly developed a loyal following and the store was an  instant success. With the business thriving and a fast growing  international clientele, Madeleine decided the next step would  be a move to Miami.

Along with Madeleine’s loyal following, international clientele, and rampant advertising, and publicity, the store not only quickly became a huge success but it was the center for the worldwide fashion community.  It is normal on any given day to spot a celebrity like Lenny Kravitz, Naomi Campbell, or the Olsen twins shopping for their next vintage piece.  Its also a “go-to” spot for stylist to shop and pull clothes for shoots. VOGUE called it “Miami’s best kept secret,” and ELLE describes the store as “A 10,000-square-foot vintage paradise.”

If you are visiting South Florida or are a Miami local and just haven’t discovered this vintage gem, be sure to set aside some time to explore the location and celebrate a 100 years of fashion. It like a museum in its own.

C Madeleine’s located at 13702 Biscayne Boulevard, North Miami. For more information and to shop C Madeleine’s call 305.945-.7770 or visit the website at www.cmadeleines.com.
