When we think skincare, most of us think of our cleansers, serums, moisturizers and so on. You think you’ve diversified your skincare regime… but everything is topical and applied to the outside of your skin. That’s why we sat down with esthetician Scott-Vincent Borba, skincare expert to the stars; he most recently hit headlines for being behind Mila Kunis’ $7,000 facial for the Golden Globes. Borba says it’s important to not only care for our skin from the outside, but have the right nutrients on the inside.
Haute Living: Tell us what is #1 most important in terms of skin care season to season. What should we know about for our skin in winter vs. during the summer?
Scott-Vincent Borba: #1 is paying attention to your skin’s needs and tending to them through your diet and skincare regimen, no matter the season. I’m a huge proponent of SPF year-round, but pay special attention during the summer. Turn to a higher SPF, and be certain to reapply. Total-body moisture is also required a lot more in the summer. Winter weather usually can mean dry skin–change in temperatures requires a shift in your skin care routine and an emphasis on hydration (in other words, drink more water!). Winter is also the best time to relax with an at-home facial! The cold weather causes your pores to close, which can lead to breakouts and blemishes.
HL: I see you have chewable vitamins that are also supposed to help your skin. can you explain further? should we be eating a certain way to make sure our skin looks good?
SVB: Yes, I am a total believer of the “inside-out” approach to skincare. After all, you are what you eat! Rather than approach skin only topically, I created a regimen of beauticeuticals and nutritionals that create flawless skin through a healthy balance of state-of-the-art, innovative “firsts” in skin care plus ground-breaking nutritionals that work internally for optimum results. Of course, healthy eating and an exercise regimen is also key, as is topical skincare, but I’ve developed supplements such as Slimming Chocolate Chews and Healthy Glow Illuminating Drink Mix (and so many more) for that added boost.
HL: If we could only use one product for our skin, which is most important?
SVB: This is a really tough question! You should always follow a regimen of cleansing/toning, treating, moisturizing & protecting. If you have to choose just one, I would suggest cleansing!! With the proper cleanser, you can address almost every item on the regimen. A good cleanser will not only cut through excess oils and dirt, but exfoliate, tone, moisturize and provide anti-aging benefits.
HL: Any advice for those with these 3 types of skin? Dry, Oily, Combination?
SVB: Dry skin is an imbalance in the body that causes the skin to lack essential oils. It can be caused by the lack or malfunction of sweat or sebaceous glands. The remedies for dry skin can simply be to drink plenty of water, exfoliate often enough to unblock pores and circulate blood, and protect the skin with a moisturizer. For dry-skin caused by a dry climate like a desert or high elevation, try applying a moisturizing spray. If you have oily skin, try using a mattifying masque once a week. It’s also important to pay closer attention to staving off breakouts – cleansing regularly and avoiding greasy foods.
If you have combination skin, for an “outside” approach, I recommend cleansing and moisturizing twice daily with a brand that is not overly rich OR overly drying and supplementing your skin with the appropriate boosters.
Scott-Vincent will be holding skin consultations, open to all, in Union Square on Sunday, Jan. 30. For more information on his product line, head to www.borba.com.

Flamboyant Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli will open two luxury clubs in 2011 in Russia, reported by Russian press. One will be opened in Moscow, and the second one in Saint Petersburg. Cavalli’s partner in Russia will be the founder and owner of the Azerbaijani TV channel ATV – Sahib Ibragimov.
The first Cavalli Club was opened in 2008 in Florence, now the chain includes three clubs – in Florence, Milan and Dubai. In addition to the dance floor and dining hall, there are also showrooms inside exhibiting Italian fashionista jewelry, watches, accessories and clothing.
According to the Penny Lane Realty agency, establishing new entertainment venue will cost Cavalli approximately 2 million euro. At the moment the designer is looking for a space to rent for his luxurious project. Cavalli has a number of strict requirements to the venue: it should be located in the downtown area and have convenient entrance and parking. It is understood that Cavalli is interested in the building with history. For Instance, his nightclub in Florence is located a 15th century deconsecrated church
Mercury, one of the largest luxury goods sellers in Russia and Cavalli’s long term partner in Moscow, is not involved in the project. According to the local experts the future club will be 100 percent successful in Moscow due to the fact that Russians endure huge interest for glamour and overindulgence; and it is directly associated with Cavalli brand. As designer himself defines Cavalli Clubs’ style, ‘Excess is success’.

There are two things in life that I believe in: love and luck. And, apparently, born and bred New York jewelry designer Casey Singer believes in them too.
Singer’s line “Love and Luck” features fun and whimsical designs in precious, semi precious, and natural materials to bring good fortune to any day. But, with this jewelry you won’t need luck, you’ll be inspired to go out and make your own. After all, how could you stay at home once putting on a few of Singer’s playful pick me up pieces? They will give you the confidence and the energy to meet new people and make deep connections. My favorite is her angel skin coral peony charm necklace with a diamond center, but with such a big selection, feel free to choose your own lucky charm.
Some of her signature pieces showcase golden monkeys and jewel-toned buddhas. The 14ktVermeil Swinging Happy Monkey necklace with Diamond Eyes, also available in sterling silver, costs $325.

What Made Him Haute: Hailing from Spain, Alejandro Sanz has been making music history with a worldwide fan base and more Grammy awards than he can count on his two hands. In 2005, he appeared on Shakira’s album in the song “La Tortura”, which spent a record breaking 25 weeks at the top of the Latin Billboard charts. His latest collaboration, “Looking for Paradise,” with Alicia Keys was Sanz’s first English single, and followed his previous endeavor straight back to the top of the Latin Billboard charts once again.

He was recently nominated for a Grammy award for Best Latin Pop Album for his album Paraiso Express and is set to be honored by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers on March 24 in Miami for the tremendous impact he has had on Latin Music. When he’s not expanding his ever-growing collection of honors and awards, Sanz will be headlining at the 2011 New Orleans Jazz Fest on May 1 among such remarkable musicians as John Legend, Willie Nelson, and Lauryn Hill. Just this past week, Sanz announced that he and girlfriend, Raquel Parera, are expecting a baby this summer. The newest addition to the family will be Sanz’s third child.

Carmen Electra hosted Tao’s fifth annual Tao a Go Go contest with Hpnotiq on Thursday night at the Venetian. Nearly 40 women competed for the $10,000 prize. The field was narrowed down to four finalists and as the contestants practiced their moves, Electra took in the scene from an elevated sky box in the VIP moat overlooking the packed club.
When the time came for the dance off to choose the winner, Electra made her way to the catwalk to help serve as emcee. After an impressive performance, Donyell Brown took home the $10,000 grand prize and sipped a Hpnotiq Bubbles and Blue cocktail to celebrate. A six-year Vegas resident, the bartender has only entered three go go contests previously. She plans to use her winnings for season tickets to her hometown Arizona Cardinals and take a cruise.
Over at Lavo at the Palazzo, rocker Slash was spotted dining with wife Perla. The couple enjoyed Sicilian Sun cocktails along with a dinner of oysters, Kobe carpaccio and tuna.

January 26, 2011 will not be remembered for its blizzard, but for the 2nd exclusive Sant Arturo Wine Dinner Series at Cipriani Downtown. True New Yorkers did not succumb to the weather as they gathered at the famous venue; while the snow continued to fall outside, inside, the place was on fire.
Besides an endless supply of wine, the exclusive Sant Arturo Wine Dinner Series events always fill the restaurant with a spectacle of beautiful ladies and a serious roster of attendees. Sitting at nearby tables were real estate mogul Paolo Zampolli, publisher of Haute Living magazine Seth Semilof, the curator of Italian artwork at the Met Museum, Xavier Salomon, and Sean Avery of the New York Rangers. Other attendees included restaurateur Aram Sabet, Sonya Goldberg of Tiret watches, and the famed artist Domingo Zapata whose work will compliment artist Peter Beard’s in the Cipriani dining room.

Once the ladies finished their meringue marshmallow cake, they took their Louboutins to the second floor Club Room. Sant Arturo Wine was already there waiting for the crew at the tables. Every table was sold and the place was booming as guests danced and laughed into the early morning. The following that this dinner brought was amazing,” stated Ignacio Cipriani, the restaurant’s owner. “The vibe was vigorous! One would never know there was two feet of snow piled outside. To pack the place in a blizzard was definitely a huge success.”
Sant Arturo Wine’s CEO Arty Dozorstev and his event planning and marketing team VIEvents created their signature energy that all their dinners are famous for. “It doesn’t hurt that the three females who comprise ViEvents are three charming and smart females,” he adds. A camera crew was also in tote with hopes of producing a reality show called “Making the Brand” about this dream team.

Photographs are what make Sant Arturo Wine unique in its advertisements; every ad published will have a collage of dinner attendees as was seen in last months Haute Living magazine. Dozorstev explains, “These pictures create lasting memories for all my guests and future clients who love to see who came and who drank, and gives everyone a reason to have Sant Arturo as their house wine.”

The famous and exclusive Sant Arturo Wine Dinner Series continues to use the lifestyle approach to bring attention to the brand. The team’s successful marketing venture for the worlds sexiest wine made the event a night to remember.
