This week may be all about the big names in the Big Game, but the Leading Ladies Spectacular is celebrating the incredible women behind professional athletes. In honor of Super Bowl XLV, the Leading Ladies Spectacular will raise money for Genesis Women’s Shelter while recognizing women for their philanthropic contributions. The two-day event will include host Pilar Sanders (wife of Primetime, Deion Sanders) and Honorary Chair Angie Barrett. The amazing women being honored during this event include Donna Richardson Joyner, Dawn Neufeld, Sherice Brown, Janet Fresquez, LeeAnne Locken, Veronica Torres, Erica Nicole and Kellita Smith.
On the evening of Tuesday, February 1st, Highland Park Village will host a shopping extravaganza. The event is open to the public with complimentary valet, lifestyle cocktails by VeeV, bites by celeb chef Lisa Garza and world class entertainment. The theme here is, of course, sports! Each of the Leading Ladies will be hosting their own party at a store within Highland Park Village (HPV). Guests will begin their “game” at Ralph Lauren, and must proceed to each participating store to rack up their stamps for a gift bag and a chance to win a Chanel Luxury Raffle item. Participating HPV stores include Chanel, Diane Von Furstenberg, Scoop, Harry Winston, Tory Burch, Ralph Lauren, VINCE, Ann Fontaine and Patrizios. Ten percent of all sales will benefit the charity chosen by each honoree. The Genesis Women’s Shelter will be accepting donated items at Valet, which include gently worn accessories, shoes and handbags.
Then continue the wining and dining on Wednesday night, February 2nd, at Bailey’s Prime Plus, who are hosting a sit-down dinner and celebration for Leading Ladies. Enjoy a VIP Cocktail hour from 6:00pm-7:00pm where guests will be greeted by The Leading Ladies and sip on VeeV cocktails.

Jewelry can take any outfit from drab to fab, especially if you are wearing a one of a kind piece. Eric Levine, owner of the online shop Affordable Vintage Jewelry NYC, scours estate sales, antique markets and auctions to locate exceptional vintage necklaces and bracelets.
“I love historical pieces,” says Levine. “Vintage has character that modern jewelry lacks. Too often modern jewelry is just a reproduction of old jewelry.” On his website you can find both costume and fine jewelry. His pieces represent a variety of styles and eras sourcing from Victorian, Art Deco or Bakelite pieces from the 1920s. Although his pieces are unique, he does not create jewelry that can only be worn for special occasions. “I want my jewelry to be very wearable and tasteful but never too ostentatious. I want women to be able to wear it on an every day basis.”
When he can’t find certain pieces, Levine also creates reproductions of designs from Etruscan, Georgian or Edwardian styles which you normally can’t find in stores. Prices range from $75 to $200. In New York City, Levine sells his pieces at Item, Eye Candy, Gallery Vercom and Albertine.

Saturday night, the cast and crew from the new film “Ten Year” held their wrap party at Tao at the Venetian. The movie, about a group of friends who reunite 10 years after their high school graduation, just finished filming.
A number of actors from the movie took part in the celebration, including Channing Tatum, Justin Long, Anthony Mackie, Scott Porter, Brian Geraghty, Kelly Noonan, Aaron Yoo, Ari Graynor, Eiko Nijo, Oscar Isaac, Frantz Durand and Keith Kurtz.
Channing Tatum arrived with his wife Jenna Dewan, and actress Krysten Ritter joined boyfriend Brian Geraghty for the event. The group sat down to dinner of signature dishes at Tao Asian Bistro and after dinner went out of their way to thank the staff and the chefs before heading up to the nightclub to continue the party.
There, they commanded several tables on the dance floor, taking in the sounds of DJ Vice. Tatum and Dewan showed off their impressive dance moves, no surprise since they co-starred in the film “Step Up,” and even Anthony Mackie had his own dance off with a Tao cocktail waitress. The group of 30, who flew in from all over the country, was surprised with a graduation themed cake congratulating them on the completion of “Ten Year.”

Miami City Ballet’s internationally and critically acclaimed company of 50 dancers will be joined by Miami City Ballet School students to present the second Ballet for Young People program at the Adrienne Arsht Center Ziff Ballet Opera House on Saturday, Feb. 12 from 2 to 3 p.m. The students open the program with Harlequin and Columbine, based on George Balanchine’s Harlequinade, followed by the company dancers in Balanchine’s Scotch Symphony.
Ballet for Young People features two entertaining ballets the entire family will love. They have been entertaining audiences for more than 50 years, sure to make dance fans out of children who have never seen a live dance performance:
Harlequin and Columbine is based on George Balanchine Harlequinade, which premiered in 1965 for the 65th anniversary of Marius Petipa’s original production Les Millions d’Harlequin. Balanchine, by his own admission “attempted to remain faithful to the spirit of Petipa’s dances,” following the tradition of commedia dell’arte with humor, slapstick and mimicry. Excerpts from Harlequin and Columbine will be performed entirely by students from the prestigious Miami City Ballet School.
Balanchine’s Scotch Symphony, with its lovely allusions to Romantic ballet, has been enthralling audiences for more than 50 years. With its masterful deployment of Mendelssohn’s rousing symphony, the ballet, based on the novel “La Sylphide” by Sir Walter Scott, is set in the Scottish Highlands and tells the story of James, a restless young man who is entranced on his wedding day by a Sylph–a magical creature visible only to him. Period costumes are by the famed designer Karinska.
This performance of Ballet for Young People is generously supported by Peacock Foundation, Rundgren Foundation, Citizens Interested in Arts, Inc and Marlins Community Foundation.
Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, Ziff Ballet Opera House, 1300 Biscayne Blvd. All tickets are complimentary and available in person Monday through Friday (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) at Miami City Ballet Studios, 2200 Liberty Ave., Miami Beach or by phone at 305.929.7010. For more information, visit miamicityballet.org. Tickets are also on sale in person at the Adrienne Arsht Center box office, by calling 305.949.6722 or online at arshtcenter.org.

At the Brides Give Back event on Feb. 23, engaged couples will have the opportunity to bid on services being donated by some of the city’s most popular wedding vendors. Best of all, the event will benefit the Save the Family Foundation of Arizona.
Couples are invited to gather at the Icehouse in Downtown Phoenix at 6 p.m. for a cheerful cocktail party, during which they’ll sip champagne, try cake samples, enjoy musical entertainment, mingle with Valley wedding professionals and bid on luxury goods and services, such as photography and florals–everything needed to make the wedding day of their dreams become a reality.
And all ticket sales for the event, as well as 100 percent of the net proceeds, will benefit the Save the Family Foundation of Arizona, a charity that helps homeless families who are struggling to become self-sufficient. In 2009, the event’s first year, the auctioning off of more than $30,000 worth of goods and services helped to provide shelter for victims of domestic abuse, while engaged couples were able to secure wedding elements for as little as 30 percent of the retail value (with all the proceeds going directly to Save the Family).
Sounds like a win-win to us!
Tickets for admission to the event can be acquired via the Brides Give Back event site, and attendees name their own ticket price (meaning, you pay whatever amount you would like donated to the charity).
Brides Give Back | Save the Family | The Icehouse is located at 429 W. Jackson Street in Phoenix
