From Russia With Love: The Bolshoi Ballet at SCFTA

In August 2010, the Segerstrom Center for the arts — then called the Orange County Performing Arts Center — announced that it would be working with Russia’s Bolshoi Ballet to create a showcase. After months of work, the duo is ready to bring all the hard work to the stage in Reflections, which will showcase new works and reworkings of old favorites.

The world premiere of Reflections will be in Segerstrom Hall Jan. 20 – 23. After its premiere, the production will move to to Russia for its European premiere at the Bolshoi in Moscow. Starring in the production will be Maria Kochetkova of the San Francisco Ballet alongside Yekaterina Krysanova, Natalia Osipova, Yekaterina Shipulina and Anastasia Stashkevich of the Bolshoi Ballet in addition to Olga Malinovskaya of the Ballet Estonia and Polina Semionova of the Berlin Staatsoper Ballet. They will be joined by a few of the Bolshoi’s leading male dancers: Alexander Volchkov, Vyacheslav Lopatin, Denis Savin and Ivan Vasiliev.

CINQUE, a new work Mauro Bigonzetti, will premiere as well as several other ballets choreographed by the likes of Jorma Elo, Karole Armitage and more. In addition to those new works, Pas de Trois by George Balanchine is also included in the program. Bringing together the grace of classical training and the new vision of theses cutting edge artists will no doubt set this performance apart from any ballet you’ve seen before. And it’s only just beginning, with the Segerstrom family promising more collaborations in the future, you can be sure that a performance at the SCFTA will be more than just another night at the theatre.

The Segerstrom Center for the Arts is located at 600 Town Center Dr., in Costa Mesa. For more information, or to purchase tickets to Reflections, visit www.scfta.org or call 714.556.2787.
