Best Spots in Boston to Watch the NFL Playoffs

Okay – so maybe you decided braving the elements was not the way you wanted to take in this weekend Playoff game between the Pats and the Jets, despite our great coverage of getting last minute tickets along the sidelines.  Maybe because you don’t want to miss any of the Golden Globes or maybe you treasure the tips of your fingers too much to risk them freezing at the stadium. Perhaps you even are interested in watching and rooting for a team other than the Pats (gasp). Regardless, you do want to be out with the masses in the chaos of rooting for the team.  So what places could possibly rival the killer home theater system you have hooked up in your own abode?  Try out some of these spots for classic game watching food, wait service to rival any in home help and, of course, a viewing area that makes it feel like you are there at the stadium, minus the chilling winds.

McGreevy’s (911 Boylston St., Boston) Consider yourself in good company at McGreevy’s. Partially owned by Dropkick Murphy’s leader Ken Casey, this is the spot you’re most likely to be watching the game alongside pro athletes or local music legends. Small and quaint get a true pub experience here.

Jillian’s (145 Ipswich St., Boston) Enter the Jillian’s complex and choose from three floors of optimal game watching arenas. Each floor offers a full wall of TV coverage as well as additional screens throughout. Venues include Tequila Rain, Jillian’s and Lucky Strike. And should you wish to get your game on as well, bowl for awhile without missing any of the action. Each bowling lane offers a projection screen at the end of it so you can watch your game and the Pats simultaneously. Just be sure not to spike your ball)

The Fours (166 Canal St., Boston) What’s a football game without some serious grub? For disgustingly fabulous pub food that is only calorically acceptable during a big game such as this, The Fours really delivers. Nachos? Check. Buffalo wings? Check. Potato Skins? Check. Cholesterol check?  Maybe not for a few days.

The Greatest Bar (262 Friend St., Boston) We don’t have an ESPN Zone here in Boston, but for the full mammoth wall of TVs experience, The Greatest Bar certainly fills the bill. Claiming to have the largest HD screen in the city, there is no ‘behind the post’ spot here as every seat feels like the best seat in the house.

Jerry Remy’s (1265 Boylston St., Boston) Leave it to the great Jerry Remy for creating the ultimate game watching environment, second best only to being there in person. Housed inside the building that was home to the now defunct WBCN FM (and former employer of mine) for decades, watching any pro sports game in the visual shadows of Fenway Park just feels right for any Boston sports fan.

And, lest you should forget, the Pats take on the Jets on Sunday, January 16th live from Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.  Kick off is at 4:30PM.
