Haute Dining: Lulu Boutique Cake Shop Plates Up Luxury Cakes

Cakes, cupcakes and brownies, oh my! New York has become awash with designer bakeries churning out fancy confections. But newly opened Lulu Cake Boutique in Chelsea is sure to stand out in the sea of options. The bakery combines artistic pieces of dessert with high-quality, organic and locally sourced ingredients such as Valrhona chocolate, farm-fresh butter and cream, fresh fruit from local farms, and fragrant vanilla beans and spices.

The bakery not only has an assortment of decadent sweets in their store, but also crafts custom cakes to order. Owner Jay Muse whips up cakes that can be replicas of anything from Porsches to Louboutins. He also offers adult versions of childhood favorites from chocolate-dipped red velvet “Twinkies” to lemon “Whoopie Pies” with cream cheese frosting. All of their creations are baked fresh on-site.
