Opening this month in North Scottsdale is Local Bistro, a casual neighborhood eatery specializing in quality pasta, pizzas, steaks and wines, headed up by Valley chef Andrea Volpi, formerly of Taggia at FireSky Resort and La Locanda.
Chef Volpi plans to deliver classic and straightforward European favorites with contemporary updates, dishes that represent the Italian, French and Spanish traditions, such as wood-fired pizzas, bouillabaisse in a light saffron tomato jus and New York Strip au poivre with brandy peppercorn sauce. Ingredients are locally sourced and prepared from scratch, making for the freshest possible pasta, sauces, mozzarella and more.
“Each item on our menu has been thoroughly thought-out and perfected by Chef Volpi,” said German Osio, owner and operator of Local Bistro. “We deliberately stayed away from fusion-style cooking and instead focused on back-to-basics fare … The result are entrées that are reminiscent of traditional comfort food while also celebrating European cuisine at its best.”
And one thing’s for sure: neither Volpi or Osio is any stranger to restaurant success. Prior to his involvement with Local Bistro, Chef Volpi (a native of Milan, Italy) contributed to the flourishing Italian restaurant Taverna in Texas before making a name for himself on the Phoenix dining scene, and his recipes have been published in such national foodie mags as Bon Appetit and Gourmet. Osio’s previous project, a steak house in Dallas, also earned local accolades for its high-quality fare.
Osio claims the bistro will be modern with a cozy atmosphere, complete with oversized booths, daily specials written on chalkboards and wine bottle racks lining the walls. Of course, what would a neighborhood hangout be without a good outdoor patio, and Local Bistro says they’ll have one of those, too — all the better on which to enjoy the creative cocktails by mixologist Bill DeGroot.
The restaurants plans to serve dinner every evening, lunch on the weekdays, and brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. The price range for dinner will be $10-$26. Visit the restaurant online for more information concerning its official opening date.
