Haute Event: Masquerading in Manhattan

Last week, masquerades were the popular party theme to start off the Halloween weekend. The official definition of a masquerade is a party, dance or celebratory gathering with guests wearing masks and other disguises, and often stylish, historical or extraordinary costumes. On Thursday, Oct. 28, there was plenty of masquerading going on around Manhattan.

The Alice Tully Hall was filled with masked men and women in tuxes and cocktail dresses for the YPLC Masquerade Ball.  There was dancing, sipping of cocktails, an espresso bar, and of course a table full of delicious mini grilled cheeses and dumplings — there was no better way to celebrate a night of mystery and most importantly the performing arts. The YPLC Masquerade Ball is a yearly event for the cultural organization and is the biggest fundraiser for the Young Patrons. The organization consists of a group of professional New Yorkers in their 20s through early 40s who are devoted to celebrating, supporting and promoting the world’s largest performing arts center.

Another fan of the masked party is Lavo’s nightlife entrepreneur, Jayma Cardoso. She held an extravagant and decadent party called Baile de Mascaras to celebrate her birthday. The party at Midtown East’s Lavo included plenty of masked guests in disguise and DJ Anane Vega and from Brazil, Michel Saad.
