Jean Therapy: The Top 5 Denim Stores in Los Angeles

Finding the right jeans can be a daunting prospect, a little like setting out for the holy grail. Let these five denim retailers ease the pain as you search for the perfect pair.

Denim Revival

This rustic shop located on a sunny stretch of Third Street in the heart of West Hollywood is more than just a denim store. While those looking for the perfect pair of washed-out and worn-in vintage denim can end their search here, Denim Revival is also the spot to fix whatever ails your jeans — be they faded, ripped or just in the need of simple tailoring for a more flattering fit. Think of Denim Revival (formerly Denim Doctors) as your denim mechanics. They’ll fix your jeans and give you some serious schooling in the art of the jean.

7934 Third St., Los Angeles, 323.852.0171.

The Blue Jeans Bar

Bar flies will love the Santa Monica’s The Blue Jeans Bar. Set-up like a watering hole, The Blue Jeans Bar is staffed with “bartenders” who’ll do their best to serve up the best fit, wash and denim style for you. The company carries more than 40 “denims on tap” including Genetic Denim, Citizens of Humanity and Serfontaine.

1409 Montana Ave.,
Santa Monica, Calif., 310.656.7898.

World Denim Bar at American Rag Cie

Created as an adjunct space to American Rag, this wood-and-steel clad World Denim Bar offers more than 30 brands of denim. Clients can customize their own denim (place your rips yourself) and then wander over to American Rag to peruse the racks of hard-to-find contemporary chic designers.

150 South La Brea, Los Angeles, 323.935.3154.

Them Atelier @ Front Street

A combination salon/retail endeavor, Front Street serves as the home base for denim line Them Atelier, the hyper-deconstructed denim of choice for L.A. east side hipsters. Helmed by denim designer Brian Kim, known for his immaculate tailoring, Them Atelier produces denim in subtle washes and dyes with intricate styling that feels more like couture than streetwear.

1154 Glendale Blvd., Los Angeles, 213.413.6666.

Levi’s

Why mess with the best? I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for Levi’s. Everybody loves Levi’s from cowboys to punk rockers. Stock up on everything from classic 501’s to vintage-inspired jeans from their Signature Levis Strauss & Co. line at their Third Street Promenade outpost.

1409 Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica, Calif., 310.393.4899.
