Over the last few years, the cupcake craze has taken over Los Angeles. Thanks to Mary and Lisa who wanted to bring a neighborhood bakery to Ventura Boulevard, the Big Sugar Bake Shop offers Valley patrons the chance to enjoy freshly baked cakes, cookies, cupcakes and breakfast treats. Unlike other bakeries with snooty attitudes, this bake shop offers visitors freshly brewed coffee, for free. Though stopping in for a double coconut or pumpkin cupcake is definitely worth it, many of Lisa and Mary’s fans come in when they need a gift such as an assembled gift basket or platters and vintage finds.

Susie Cakes
Famous for their carrot cake and southern red velvet, Susie Cakes has become a Calabasas staple for those looking for indulgent and specialty treats. The All-American approach to desserts in this shop means that each cupcake, cookie or bar is reminiscent of an old favorite with a modern twist. The “frosting filled” cupcake has become a Susie favorite, with flavors such as luscious lemon and chocolate mint. Others include classic puddings with the flavors turned up as well as personalized cakes and cupcakes available by order.

Whether you choose one of their Vegan cupcakes or one of their unique cupcake flavors such as blood orange or blue cheese apple, the desserts offered at Yummy Cupcakes are truly unique and for everyone. One of Yummy’s favorite desserts is known as a cupcake in a jar, where frosting, filling, and pieces of cupcake are ready to eat out of a jar with a spoon. For these summer months, Yummy offers the summer picnic pack with a burger, corn cob and watermelon, all made out of cupcakes.
