View From the Top: Bertrand at Mister A’s

When your restaurant is slated as having one of the best views in the country, and your reputation precedes you in every write-up on the city’s eateries, you had better back up the claims.  Luckily for Bertrand at Mister A’s, it does.

Sitting literally atop downtown San Diego, the first thing a patron of this amazing establishment is going to feel is above the rest, and this is no accident.  While you gaze out over the lights of downtown reaching all the way to the ocean, you realize you are not here to simply eat, you are here to experience.  Bertrand at Mister A’s is a venue that recalls to mind the time when people dressed up for dinner and made it an event, not just a means to an end.  The decor, the staff, the service, and the presentation of this grand locale is enough to remind you that even in a town favoring beachwear year round, there are still standards to be had and standards to far exceed.

The menu at Bertrand at Mister A’s is headed by esteemed chef Stephane Voitzwinkler, and his creations are not only delectable, but decadent in their appearance and taste.  The cuisine is Mediterranean focused, with subtle liberties taken in the most delicious ways.  The specific and creative menu begins with salads featuring items such as sashimi and ahi tuna, as well as traditional ingredients such as local farm vegetables.  As you work your way through the courses, the food only gets better and better, as the focus on style and flavor permeate each dish, showcasing many scrumptious seafood dishes amidst the traditional menu items that are nothing less than incredible.  The grilled ribeye alone is a reason to visit this fantastic restaurant, as it’s tenderness is only surpassed by it’s ability to transform all your tastebuds into sheer happiness upon your first bite.  Not to be outdone, the dessert menu is just as carefully designed as the rest of the tempting concoctions.  From the towering strawberry shortcake dish to the house-made sorbets, this is not the place to skip dessert.

Bertrand at Mister A’s has obviously gone to great lengths to hold their place in the great restaurants of California, and their efforts are lavished upon each lucky guest they serve.  Combining both decadence and class, this is the place to pamper your stomach in San Diego.  To be served delicacies on top of the city while the rest of the world runs around below, what else is there in luxury?
