Tonight was television’s night of nights, the Primetime Emmy Awards. This is the one award show where television doesn’t have to share with the film people (see Golden Globes, SAG Awards, etc) and it can be all about them. The usual suspects were there, (Tina Fey, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) but tonight belonged (mostly) to the new kids on the block. Jane Lynch won for “Glee”. That dude from the CBS show “Big Bang Theory” won too — making nerds the world over jump for joy. The Governor’s Ball – the absolute must see and do first stop — was beautiful…but looked a little like the prom. All that was missing was my corsage and a slow dance; though the shoes I was wearing really weren’t going to go there.
Grey Goose provided the vodka; the bars that dotted the perimeter were basically giant ice sculptures. Disco balls large and small dotted the dance floor and the mood lighting was a subtle shade of blue.
Celebs dined and schmoozed for a good two hours before jetting off to what would be the first of many celebratory soirees: AMC’s (SOHO HOUSE), HBO’s bash (PAC DESIGN CENTER) and Fox’s partay downtown…which is funny there seemed to be an over abundance of GLEEfully happy actors at HBO…
Suffice to say, it didn’t matter where you ended up; there was good food all around and a happy go lucky ‘tude across the board. Jon Hamm might not have won Best Actor (he lost to Bryan Cranston) but that didn’t stop him from celebrating — Mad Men garnered the big win of the night — Best Drama Series, along with Best Writing for a Drama for creator Matthew Weiner.
Sadly, nothing for Tina Fey, though for the first time in awhile, she really pulled out all the stops and looked fffab.

It’s only been ten days since the opening of Dough Bro’s in Addison, but owner Phillip Schultz says he’s already seeing repeat customers–sometimes twice in one day.
And it’s no wonder why. The business crowd around the restaurant’s location at the Tollway and Keller Springs are taking notice of the Italian eatery, a sort of Chipotle-esque take on pizzas and calzones.
Here’s the deal: Wander up to the counter and take your pic of the On the Dough (pizzas), In the Dough (calzones) or No Dough (salads) options. Then your friendly counter person (sometimes Schultz himself) will guide you through the array of fresh ingredients, from mushrooms and basil to ham and grilled chicken.Don’t know where to begin? There’s a couple suggestion boards a la Phillip and Alex, the Ohioan brothers who founded the concept.
Choose your sauce, either alfredo, your basic marinara or the rustic marinara (chunky and packin’ some heat), all of which are homemade along with the dough itself (the not-so-secret ingredient is Pellegrino, which makes the dough airy and delicious.) Looking to mix things up? Try stuffing your ‘zone with the Mac n’ Cheese. Throw a little bacon in there, get a side of Spicy Ranch and you’ll be addicted.
Then the masterpiece you yourself have created is put in the little oven. You grab a root beer (the real thing is yet to come,) and settle into a table to await your meal. A mere minutes later, your ‘zone or pizza is served, baked to heavenly perfection.
Naturally, if you’re in even more of a hurry or want less carbs with your creation, you can go “No Dough” with their hand cut salad, a blend of romaine, iceburg and spinach that can be topped with any of the regular pizza toppings.
Dough Bro’s announced today they are now delivering, so if you’re in the Addison area you may be in luck.

Elite travelers know how to fly in style. They have elevated airline status, always bring more than their fair share of luggage, and never leave home without their furry best friends. However, passengers have found over the years that traveling with pets can be difficult. Dog and cats are often required to be kenneled and travel in the cargo hold. Even if they are allowed on their airline, seats are limited and the pets are restricted to their carrying bags and required to be on their best behavior. For pet lovers, neither of these options are ideal.
A new company, Pet Jets, has found a solution to the pet travel dilemma.Pet Jets is boutique company that operates a special program for pet-owning vacationers. Pet Jets owner, Brian Fiske saw a need for this niche of special travelers. “There are really very few opportunities for pet owners when it comes to air travel.Scheduled airlines offer either the cargo hold or limited space in the cabin.Pets can also fly with the current pet airline that doesn’t allow their owners to fly with their pets!”
When customers contact Pet Jets, they will reach out to their network of FAA provided air craft to seek empty-leg or special one way pricing in private aircraft that allow pets. Owners can now travel with their pets in the main cabin, allowing for a comfortable trip for both passengers.
For more information on Pet Jets, or for assistance in booking your pet-friendly flight call 877.303.6660 or visit www.petjets.net.

Cristophe Salon, where the magic happens.
Today the Primetime Emmy Awards are the go to party of the night. I’ve taken my nap, gotten my mani/pedi, done the morning exercise.
Now it’s on to the luxury portion of our program.
For hair and makeup I went over to the Cristophe Salon on Beverly Drive — the flagship of the hair stylist’s empire and favorite of celebs like Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum, and Nicole Kidman.

(Above: My hair from the back and looking fab)
Herve Onossian was my hair stylist — a calm, collected and handsome Frenchman who has been working with Christophe for ten years. He also recently had his first art exhibition downtown — which runs through September 4th. I showed him a photo of my dress — think 60/70’s Valley of the Dolls-ish. Herve gave me an updated version of the aforementioned Patty Duke/Sharon Tate looks from the film, with a dash of Catherine Deneuve. Suffice to say, it is très très fantastique!
Once I had the hair coiffed I moved on to Thierry Pourtoy – yes, another Frenchman – to take care of le visage. I’m a flincher, but this did not phase Pourtoy, who has worked with Christophe for nearly twenty years as a makeup artist. His celebrity clients include Paris Hilton, Nicky and Kathy Hilton, Jamie Lee Curtis, Elizabeth Taylor, Charlize Theron, Salma Hayek, David Duchovny’s other half, Tea Leoni.

(Above: Thierry’s handiwork on my face, accompanied by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.)
Now it’s off to the Governor’s Ball.

Most of us remember Dennis Hopper as a movie star (from Rebel Without A Cause to Blue Velvet and beyond), director, raconteur, even as a patron. But few of are conscious of the contributions and impact the late Venice resident made as a fine artist. Or at least the scope.
But now an exhbit at the MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary — curated by friend and fellow artist Julian Schnabel – takes a serious survey of Hopper’s art, including photography, painting, sculpture and found-object collage. Astoundingly, it’s the first comphrensive survey of Hopper’s work to appear in a North American museum.
It may be hard to believe that such a populist character actor was such a serious artist (unless you know Viggo Mortensen, of course), but the evidence bears out. Hopper’s stunning black and white portrait and landscape photography from the 1960s, collages, politically motivated installations and more recent huge canvases show an active creative mind who expressed himself well in several media over 60 years of effort.
His 1961 photo Double Standard (above), from which the exhibition takes its name, is certainly among his most respected works. Trivia buffs may be interested in knowing that it was the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard, Melrose Avenue and Doheny Drive.
MOCA Director Jeffrey Deitch says “Dennis Hopper’s work has been a springboard for the work of many artists and filmmakers of a younger generation. His fusion of artistic media has become an inspiration for the new artistic generation who often draw on performance and film as well as painting, sculpture, and photography in the creation of their work.”
Dennis Hopper: Double Standard will be on display through September 26.
The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA is located at 250 South Grand Avenue, 213.626.6222

Friday night Brody Jenner, who turned 27 on Aug. 21, celebrated at Lavo at the Palazzo. The reality TV star along with his brother Brandon and group of guy friends started the night with a dinner of Italian favorites including Lavo’s Kobe meatball, chicken parmagiano, penne a la vodka and dessert of Oreo zeppole and strawberry shortcake.
After dinner they headed up to the nightclub, taking over a dance floor table stocked with Amstel Light and Jagermeister. Jenner’s girlfriend Avril Lavigne had been expected to join him but had to head straight to Los Angeles from Sweden where she was recording a new album. Jenner stuck close to his boys even as girls in the club clamored to get near him – a bachelorette party even had to be escorted away from his table after trying a little too hard to get close. He politely posed for photos with fans, but professed his love for only one person, his brother Brandon. Jenner was surprised with a Gimme Some Sugar cake that was a replica of his prized ’68 Dodge Charger.
Holly’s World co-star Angel Porrino was spotted with boyfriend Tal Cooperman checking out the scene at Lavo.
Later in the night Jenner and crew made their way over to Tao Nightclub at the Venetian, stopping in the casino to try their luck for a few hands before continuing the party. Once at Tao, Jenner hopped into the deejay booth with Ross One and grabbed the mic – after asking that all the lights be turned up in the club he once again let the crowd know how much he loves his brother and then the LA native gave a shout out to the West Coast, sending the packed club into a frenzy.
Also spotted at TAO on Friday were Floyd Mayweather Jr., Pauly Shore and Olympic swimmer and gold medalist Cullen Jones.

TV personality Bridget Marquardt dazzled as she hosted “Stereo Loves Snow Day” at Azure Luxury Pool at the Palazzo today. In a sparkling bikini she designed herself, Marquardt walked the blue carpet with her boyfriend Nick Carpenter. Marquardt is a huge fan of themed parties and when asked about Snow Day, she enthusiastically replied, “I love it! I love costumes and themed parties and I thought to myself what am I going to wear? Something fun and spectacular!”
Marquardt arrived at Azure, excited to see the luxury pool. While basking in the rays, she shared kisses with her boyfriend and toasted Moet Ice Imperial with her friends including Peepshow star Holly Madison and American Idol Season 5 finalist Elliott Yamin.
The always cheerful Marquardt took time to pose for pictures with tons of screaming fans. To cool off, she took frequent dips in the pool, enjoyed Sno Cones and posed with a six-foot tall snowman ice sculpture. Beautiful body-painted Moet Ice Angels presented her with a “Snow Day” cake topped with an Igloo created by Gimme Some Sugar
“It’s hard to stay looking good in the heat, but my suggestions would be powder, drinks, wading in the pool and you can’t forget a snow outfit,” Marquardt said.
When asked about Dancing With the Stars, Marquardt mentioned her interest in being a part of the show, as she shimmied her hips and giggled “Look I already have my outfit, it’s Dancing With the Stars-inspired. I think it would be really fun to be on the show, but they’ve already booked the cast. I’ve talked to Holly about it.” As for the upcoming cast, she’s most excited to see the Situation from MTV’s Jersey Shore.
Marquardt continues to stay busy, filming her own reality show with Carpenter. “I’ve been in a relationship for over two years, living together and doing a show together now,” she said. She is also working on a line of designer watches with Pascal Mouawad.
Marquardt is looking forward to a weekend in Vegas, including a romantic gondola ride with Carpenter at the Palazzo’s sister property, the Venetian. She plans on visiting all the hot spots including Tao Asian Bistro and Tao Nightclub at the Venetian and Wolfgang Puck’s Cut at the Palazzo.

Come one, come all, come washed, waxed and ready to shine: Sunday, August 29 marks the 11th Annual Swedish Car Day at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum.
The auto museum, situated within a centuries-old estate in a private Brookline neighborhood, proudly hosts the United States’ oldest car collection, with vehicles on display that date back to 1899. The tradition of showing rare and fine automobiles began with Larz Anderson himself, where, with socialite wife Isabel, he would open the gates to their carriage house (where the autos are still stored today) on Sunday afternoons to the delight of American and European auto enthusiasts and collectors. Today, the museum is operated and maintained by the Veteran Motor Car Association, which also plans and executes the museum’s exhibits, forums, and events on the estate’s Great Lawn.
This Sunday’s event is sponsored by Boston Volvo and Charles River SAAB, and will feature fleets old and new by multiple Swedish automobile manufacturers. Spectators may opt for pre- or post-show brunch in nearby Boston (and with patio season coming to a close, we behoove you to take advantage of the weather and the mimosas), or enjoy an on-site menu hosted by upscale caterer Euro Delights. The estate also hosts non-automobile events throughout the year, including cocktail receptions, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, and weddings, all with unlimited access to gallery exhibits.
Rare vehicles, a sprawling mansion and the “It” couple that started it all: now that’s what we call haute history.
The Larz Anderson Auto Museum is located at 15 Newton Street, Brookline, 617.522.6547
