“Extending the Runway: Tatiana Sorokko Style” to Make its U.S. Debut at the Phoenix Art Museum

Called the first Russian supermodel, Tatiana Sorokko achieved international success in the 1990s walking the runway for such major designers as Yves Saint Laurent, Hubert de Givenchy, Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein and others. An exhibition showcasing her incredible off-runway couture wardrobe will make its U.S. debut Sept. 16 at the Phoenix Art Museum, the collection’s first stop after being unveiled in Moscow.

After moving to Paris in 1990, Sorokko became the first Russian model to be recognized internationally, and her acute sense of style was just as well received. Since then she has appeared on the covers and the best-dressed lists of some of fashion’s most iconic magazines, such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle and Cosmopolitan.

After making its world debut at the newly opened Russian Fashion Museum of Moscow, Sorokko’s collection of haute couture items will be coming directly to Arizona, to be on display at the Phoenix Art Museum Sept. 16, 2010, through Jan. 2, 2011. Curated by Phoenix Art Museum Fashion Design Curator Dennita Sewell, the exhibition includes more than 60 garments and accessories from the top model’s personal wardrobe.

Expect to see early 20th century pieces from style legends Lanvin, Balmain, Patou, Balenciaga, Ungaro, Hermes, Alaia, Jean Paul Gaultier, Gianfranco Ferre, Vivienne Westwood, Comme des Garcons, Halston, Chado Ralph Rucci and many others.

“Tatiana’s inborn sense of style and extensive modeling experience shape her selections, which transcend current fashion trends,” Sewell says. “Creating superb garments is an art form, and the same can be said for developing such an intelligent and sophisticated wardrobe.”

See it: Sept. 16, 2010, through Jan. 2, 2011, in the Kelly Ellman Fashion Design Gallery and the Orme Lewis Gallery. Admission to the exhibition is included with the purchase of general admission.

The Phoenix Art Museum is located at 1625 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix  602.257.1222

Haute Beauty: Maile Organics

Maile Organics Pikake Collection

Beloved all-natural Kauai based beauty line Maile Organics recently announced it’s eco-conscious conversion to an all-organic product line. Featuring local ingredients and distillations from the islands, new technology and increased organic supply made the 100% green transition a reality. All ingredients are sustainably grown and products are nontoxic with no petroleum, mineral spirits, sulfates, or parabens.

Launched in 2004, by husband and wife team Shaun and Dana Roberts, the luxury beauty and skin care company, offers ingredients made of the most fragrant flowers and luscious fruits found in paradise. The beauty of the natural elements found throughout the Garden Isle greatly inspire the duo. Every product uses Hawaiian Hydrosols, a process in which flowers are extracted in water, small batches of the plant material are heated and immersed in water, cellular qualities of plant are captured in the resulting steam, vapor transforms back to liquid form and becomes pure hydrosol. The Kahunas, Hawaii’s traditional spiritual medicine practitioners, would call the vibration translated through the hydrosol, the “aloha spirit” of the plant. Malie Organics continues this tradition through pure hydrosol aromatherapy.

Most popular is the Pikake Collection including an organic body cream, body polish, luxe butter soap, organic mist, liquid hand soap, soy candles, and island ambiance reed diffuser. Pikake’s aroma is soft and sexy with a subtle blend of tropical florals and spice. This collection along with the sweetly scented Plumeria Island Ambiance range boasts a notable celebrity fan base including Brooke Burke, Paris Hilton, Penelope Cruz, Tyra Banks, and Oprah.

The Anti-Aging Collection is also a best seller. It’s powered with Hawaiian coffee fruit extract and uses natural elements to reverse signs of aging. An island inspired, eco-friendly version of La Mer if you will, the Hawaiian coffee fruit infused cream is bursting with protective nutrients. The Hawaiian super fruit beholds more antioxidant power than any other fruit source. The anti-aging miracle cream reduces lines, wrinkles, sun damage, and hyper pigmentation for softer, smoother, younger looking skin.

Complimenting collections include Koke’e, Coconut Vanilla, Mango Nectar, Lilikoi Lemongrass, Jasmine Rose, and Kauai Clay. The luxe products can be found at some of the “haut-est” spas across the world or may be ordered a la cart online. Awaken your senses, renew your personal canvas, reduce your carbon footprint, and transcend to a tropical bliss with Maile Organics.

Haute Secrets New York: Heather Thomson
by Jessica Bryant

Haute Secrets New York

Name: Heather Thomson

Stats: Born in Hudson, N.Y.; has lived in New York for 24 years; currently resides on the Upper West Side.

Why she loves New York: The energy

Heather Thomson is more than a celebrity stylist and fashion designer; she is a woman’s best-kept secret. Thomson’s Yummie Tummie shapewear line is the answer to muffin-topped beauties everywhere — and, let’s be realistic — at some point in our lives, that accounts for about 90 percent of us, whether we’d like to admit it or not.

Celebrities and consumers alike have become fans of Yummie Tummie, and we can see why. The apparel, which usually comes in the form of a tank top or fitted T-shirt, is designed to minimize the appearance of fat. It visually takes off inches from the bust area to the hips—a result of the apparel’s firm, minimizing control panels. The mid-panel, which has an instant airbrush effect, wards off moisture with its microfiber material, and also prevents that annoying cling factor.

Yummie Tummie is the perfect fix for all women, especially for mothers and entrepreneurs with a hectic schedule who don’t have enough time to schedule regular sweat sessions. The core stability that the Yummie Tummie provides is equivalent to the benefits of yoga or Pilates — you’ll look taller, sleeker, and more confident. And as far as we’re concerned, confidence is the hautest accessory of all.

Thomson has also found success as the founding design director for Sean “P. Diddy” Combs’ Sean John label, earning it three Council of Fashion Designers of America nominations. She’s also worked for Jennifer Lopez’s Sweetface brand, and Beyonce Knowles’ mother’s three apparel brands.

Haute Yachts: Mi Sueño Is Muy Bueno
by Diane M. Byrne

A yacht in the 200-foot range certainly has a lot of deck space inside and out to offer, but sometimes that’s the problem. Owners can get carried away with making salons, staterooms, and upper-deck lounges so spacious that the rooms end up being simply too big, lacking in intimacy.

Thankfully that pitfall was skillfully avoided aboard Mi Sueño. A 190-footer recently delivered by Trinity Yachts, the yacht has a handful of well-designed relaxation areas that should make other owners of super-size superyachts sit up and take notice.

The most successfully executed area is the wine-tasting room, located just inside the doors from the main aft deck. Instead of starting the saloon at those doors, the owner wanted an extra place to welcome guests and relax. Interior designer Patrick Knowles of Patrick Knowles Designs delineated it with marble and tile underfoot and silver leaf overhead. A floor-to-ceiling curtain lies at its forward edge, a terrific way to separate it from the salon and give it its own personality. Knowles further commissioned custom, climate-controlled wine cabinets to line the walls to each side. All told, more than 400 bottles can be stored here or selected for sampling. Plush benchseats, flanked by petrified tree trunks that serve as end tables, let the owner and guests gather to discuss the libations. They can even select a cigar from humidors beneath the wine cabinets.

Mi Sueño features another well-fashioned gathering area on her uppermost deck. The aptly named sundeck has lounges for catching rays, an alfresco dining spot, a bar, and both a hot tub and a dip pool. Now, with the exception of the dip pool, there’s really nothing terribly unusual about this lineup.

However, the way the areas are arranged sets Mi Sueño apart. The semi-circular bar has an aft countertop, accompanied by a few bar stools, and a forward counter top, which butts up directly against the hot tub. This allows family and friends to be seated or soaking and not only still laugh and talk with one another, but also request (and receive) tropical drinks within arm’s distance.

If you’d like to check out Mi Sueño for yourself, you can: The yacht is presently available for charter for a party of 12 in the Mediterranean. The rate is approximately $355,682 per week (it’s quoted in Euros, so the currency exchange rate fluctuates slightly). International Yacht Collection holds the central listing, though your favorite charter broker can also book the yacht.

Number of Children Billionaires in Russia Grew by 1.5 Times

I am sure you have heard but there was a global economic downturn. Fortunately, for the sake of their inheritance, the children of Russia’s billionaires’ will not be affected, so we can breathe a sigh of relief. Finance magazine says that the amount of wealthy scions, based on estimates of what they can expect to inherit, has actually risen over the last year. And Finance magazine is referring only to billionaire scions.
The number of child billionaires has gone up by 1.5 times, and their combined fortunes have more than doubled. Take the richest Russian Yusuf Alekperov, the son of the president of Russia’s largest private oil company, Lukoil, Vagit Alekperov. As the only child in the family he is ‘doomed’ to lead the list with his father’s fortune estimated at $10.65 billion. That makes Yusuf the most desirable fiancé.

Taking second place in the mini-garch’s olympiad is the only son of one of the founders of Alfa Group Alexei Kuzmichev. His name and age are undisclosed but he will inherit $7.1 billion.
And taking the bronze (a metal they are perhaps unfamiliar with) medal is the two young children of aluminium mogul Oleg Deripaska, Peter and Marina. Their father’s fortune is estimated at $ 13.8 billion.
Then there are three heirs of Vladimir Lisin, each is supposed to inherit $6.27 billion. Their father, the owner of the Russian steel giant Novolipetsk Steel, was named the richest Russian with an estimated wealth of $18.8 billion.
Russia’s most eligible bachelorette is Victoria Mikhelson, daughter of director general of the gas company Novatek, is number eight in the rating with a share of $5.9 billion.
Roman Abramovich’s scions are only 37th and 42nd in the wealth league, as Roman’s fortune of $17 billion has to be shared between 6, including newly born son Aaron.

Another oligarch with business interests in the UK is the Independent and the Evening Standard newspapers owner Alexander Lebedev. His son Eugene came 25th in the rating. Eugene is something of a socialite on the London scene with $3.4 billion at his disposal.

All together there are 85 “minigarchs” in the rich list.
