His debut album, Pure Pleasure, was released in 1993. Shaggy first hit big in the United States in the mid-’90s with Boombastic. The title track sold more than a million copies and peaked at No. 1 on the R&B charts. The album reached platinum status and spent a full year at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Reggae Albums chart and won Shaggy a Grammy award for Best Reggae Album in 1995. Multiple crossover hits followed with success both in the United States and overseas and in 2002 Mr. Lover Lover: The Best of Shaggy, Vol. 1 was released.
