Haute Dining SF: Mamacita, Sophisticated Mexican

Sometimes nothing hits the spot like Mexican food. Though not typically viewed or served in an upscale fashion there is one popular San Francisco restaurant that is choosing to break the mold. Mamacita is a Marina eatery that dishes up delicious Mexican food in a modern family style fashion.

The basis for the Mamacita menu is their fresh cuisine. Their tamales, tortillas and sauces are all completely homemade. The staple of their menu consists of clean ceviches, cheesy enchiladas and unique tacos. In addition, their fresh made guacamole is the best I have ever had in San Francisco.

Personal menu favorites of this foodie are the Yellowtail “Borracho”and Mayakoba tacos. The Mayako is made with seared ahi tuna with a summer watermelon-tomato pico de gallo and micro cilantro in jicama wraps. It is such a modern and light take on the standard taco.

Of course, no Mexican meal would be complete without a margarita. Their tasty salt-rimmed cocktails are concocted using the vast array of tequilas the restaurants stocks. For those who prefer beer, they also have great Mexican cervezas.

The restaurant itself reflects their family style philosophy. The tables are closely placed together, creating a lively atmosphere. The wood furniture, neutral colors, and dim lighting with hints of lanterns give the restaurant a semi-romantic, yet energetic ambiance.

I almost hesitate to brag too much about this favorite eatery of mine as weekend reservations are already hard to come by. However, sometimes the best finds are meant to be shared, so make sure you make a point to visit this amazing restaurant.
