What Made Her Haute: This nine-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist, musician, actress, and philanthropist became the first female to have an MTV Unplugged album to debut at No. 1. In June 2009, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers honored Keys with the Golden Note Award, which is given to artists “who have achieved extraordinary career milestones.” She is also the co-founder and Global Ambassador of Keep a Child Alive, a non-profit organization that provides medicine to families with HIV and AIDS in Africa. Keys was honored at the 2009 BET Awards with the Humanitarian Award for her philanthropic work. Her long-awaited third studio album, As I Am, is set for a worldwide release on Nov. 13 on J Records.

What Makes Her Haute Now: Alicia Keys, who is engaged to Swizz Beatz, recently attended Russell Simmons’ East Hampton estate to support her fiancé, who was honored at the 11th Annual Art for Life benefit. The star singer, who is awaiting the birth of her first child, will also be featured on her fiancé’s first solo album along with other industry heavyweights, Jay-Z, Drake, and Mary J. Blige. Keys will also grace the stage at the seventh annual Black Ball NY at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. The event, which is supported by Key’s Keep a Child Alive Organization, will take place on Sept. 30. The Keep a Child Alive Organization also took part in the Black Ball London, aiding families struggling with HIV and AIDS in India and Africa and has raised an impressive $10 million.

Keys, who collaborated with Jay-Z on his renowned 2009 album, The Blueprint 3, performed one of the hit songs, “Empire State of Mind” for the World Cup introduction ceremony in South Africa. She continued to makes strides of her own with her most recent album, The Element of Freedom. The album became her first to top the UK Albums Chart.
