Out of the Humidor: Quesada Tributo

In an emotional presentation in February 2010 at the Annual ProCigar Festival in Santiago, Dominican republic, I was among the first to taste the Quesada Tributo cigar.  Finally, after much anticipation, the Quesada Tributo is now available in premium tobacconists around the country…. if they’re still in stock.

The Quesada Tributo, a brand new cigar created by the 5th Generation of the Quesada family, uses some spectacular tobaccos including a never-before used Ecuadorian-grown hybrid wrapper that combines four different tobacco strains (Habano 2000, Corojo, Sumatra and Havana Vuelta Arriba).

In April 2002 the Quesada family lost three family members in tragic plane crash.  Manuel Quesada’s brother Alvaro was a great teacher and inspiration to the young Quesadas, teaching them a great deal about tobacco.  The belicoso format (6” x 52) is named in his honor.  Alvaro’s son Alvarito was a member of the fifth generation and was quite close with them learning about and working with tobacco early on. The petit corona is named after him (4 ½” x 40 ).  Although Julio wasn’t a blood relative, Manuel and his family considered him as a family member.  The 5” x 50 robusto is named the Julio.  Finally, Manuel’s father Manolin was honored in the fourth format, a massive toro at 6.5” x 60.  Manolin was the first person to introduce the fifth generation to tobacco, and instilled his love, respect and passion for tobacco into each and every one of them.

The cigars range in price from $6.00 – $9.00 per cigar and are available at select premium tobacconists.
