Louis Vuitton Unveils 2010 FIFA World Cup Trophy Case
On June 11th the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa kicks off, and every soccer or football—as the Europeans say—fanatic around the world will be tuning in to watch their favorite team battle it out for the prestigious and coveted FIFA World Cup Trophy. Last night Louis Vuitton unveiled a special order case commissioned by FIFA to house the World Cup Trophy in style and, well, safety.
Long-time friend and collaborator of Louis Vuitton, Naomi Campbell, was present at the Paris unveiling of this luxurious leather good last evening. Campbell had the honor of personally placing the trophy in its custom Louis Vuitton case but it was Antoine Arnault, Head of Communications for Louis Vuitton, who had the most to say: “We are very proud to have been chosen by FIFA to create the case in which the world’s ultimate sporting prize will in future travel the globe. This exceptional commission truly honors Louis Vuitton’s 150-year tradition of craftsmanship and savoir-faire.”
The case was handmade by a single craftsman in Louis Vuitton’s historic Asnières workshop near Paris—and the design and execution of this distinguised product fulfilled Louis Vuitton’s tradition of creating unique special order products that respect the spirit of travel, and both protect and transport the belongings of the customer.
The travel case is covered in Louis Vuitton’s iconic Monogram canvas, and is fitted with the brand’s signature brass lock and corners, as well as featuring a rich brown lining that complements the Trophy’s gold hue. This exceptional case opens at the front and top to allow the Trophy to be easily removed—the ideal attribute for easily displaying the Trophy during final ceremonies in Johannesburg.
Says FIFA Director of Marketing Thierry Weil, “The travel case is an fundamental element in the appearance of our most important asset. It not only underlines the exclusivity and personality of the FIFA World Cup Trophy but guarantees safety and protection on its travel around the world.”
We can’t wait for the games to start next week. But tell us. What do you look forward to more? The international unveiling of this extraordinary Louis Vuitton creation, or the greatest soccer stars in the world entwined in fierce competition?
