NYC Chef Floyd Cardoz Flies West to San Fran for Tonight’s Kids with Cameras Benefit
by Diana Gdula
According to EaterWire, San Francisco is in for a culinary treat tonight when Indian-born chef Floyd Cardoz, Executive Chef and partner of Danny Meyer’s innovative New York City restaurant Tabla, (whom Haute Living Food Contributor Tracey Ceurvels interviewed) disembarks west for the Kids with Cameras benefit. Cardoz will be whipping-up a sizzling array of Indian-inspired dishes for the black-tie event at Carolands Chateau in Hillsborough.
Jim and Susan Swartz, along with Mayor Gavin Newsom and Jennifer Siebel Newsom, will host Kids with Cameras to raise the remaining funds for building Hope House, a shelter promoting growth and education. Guests will dine on delectable cuisine, courtesy of world-renowned Chef Cardoz, and celebrate a fête of Indian culture to bring hope to 100 children in Kolkata’s red light district. Kolkata’s destitute children were brought to light in Born into Brothels which won the Academy-Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2005. The night will include a live musical performance by Grammy Award-winning Zakir Hussain.
Back home in NYC, Cardoz re-imagines Indian flavor at Tabla Restaurant, located on Madison Square Park, dishing out passionate New Indian cuisine spiced with shy hints of Italian, American, and French influences. Born in Bombay and raised in Goa, Cardoz is no stranger to tantalizing flavor, so whether you take hold of limited seating at tonight’s dinner, or hit up the East Coast’s Tabla, (we recommend pleasing your palate with tapioca crusted soft shell crabs with spring onion, green mango, and roasted chilli curry, or spring baby lamb with green chickpeas, and Rick Bishop’s baby potatoes) expect nothing less than gastronomical delight.
