Motivation and self-control are two frightening words that can quickly cause your blood pressure to skyrocket. As human beings we struggle with animal-like instincts that cause us to fight against them. With so much to do and so little time, the only thing that is left are excuses for why we can’t exercise. Here are three of my favorite quick and dirty fat blasters that are even fun for the young tikes:

Jump rope: I know it sounds absolutely ridiculous. We did it as kids, so how hard can it honestly be? Well, we no longer have the stamina we once did. I know I am not the little girl jumping rope on the playground during recess anymore. The beauty of a jump rope is that it does not discriminate. You can pick it up and take it anywhere, at anytime of the day. I challenge you to pick it up, crank on some tunes, or even watch the nightly news. Try to go for two minutes and work your way up to 30 minutes of cardio.

Hula hoop: This childhood toy can twirl around your waist, but the beauty is the energy put into fighting the force of gravity and letting it slip on the floor. You can enjoy this at any given moment and can even been done while watching the stove as you cook dinner for your family.

Wii Fit: Let me just start by saying I am addicted. Have you ever found yourself channel surfing and to your dismay there is nothing on television? Happens all the time, but now when that happens you can get in a quick yoga session in your living room.
In a world where time is of the essence and we have bitten off more than we can chew, figuring out how to multitask, balancing work and life, is often the only form of mental exercise we get. Working out requires motivation, self-control, and time three things that no longer have to be a passing thought in our minds. Next time you walk in the door after a long day and you do not have the energy to make it to the gym, remember my three suggestions.
