Haute Living Los Angeles Jan/Feb 2012
Friday Night in the Magic City

If you didn’t make our latest Haute 100 list in the most recent edition of Haute Living Miami, and thereby didn’t receive an exclusive invitation to our VIP fete for tomorrow night, celebrating the Magic City’s most influential entrepreneurs, thinkers, entertainers, originators, philanthropists, power couples, and, of course, billionaires, don’t fret. This is still the Magic City, meaning that there are a myriad of upscale events taking place on Friday night for which you may still have time to send in your RSVP.

While Gulfstream Park & Casino doesn’t usually make it to the top of our list of haute and trendy South Florida venues, the place has spent 2010 bringing on new names and projects to draw in the fancy set. Some of the strategies seem to be working because on Friday night, some of the big names from the social circuit will be hosting an event at MI-IX, the nightclub that threw open its doors back in January. Elaine Lancaster will be the headliner, naturally, with Howard Austin Feld. Sharing space with more than 30 other names listed on the invitation are Pamela Anderson, Roy and Lea Black, Lesley Abravanel, Martin Krediet, Alan Randolph, and Cecilia Paz. For dinner or table reservations, call 954.457.6464 or contact info@mi6ent.com for guest list info.

If a drive up to Hallandale is just out of the question, hit up the Miami mainland for a visit to check out Tony Goldman’s revival of the Wynwood Arts District. While the Second Saturday Art Walk has already passed for this month, Cafeina will be welcoming hip fashionistas for the second installment of its Canadian-inspired party series “The Eh Team.” If you haven’t been yet, the mixed-use venue can satiate your beverage cravings while also satisfying your longing for aesthetically pleasing art. When your stroll through the gallery is complete, the lush outdoor garden is where everyone ends up, relaxing on the loungers with cocktails in hand. RSVP is required, at RSVP@iheartsupermarket.com.

For those who remain loyal to the beach for nightly escapades, we mentioned yesterday that Friday night at LIV will the chance to check out what former President Bill Clinton has to say about his global inititive, which will be followed by a performance by N.E.R.D. Admission is $150, which includes a complimentary bar from Diageo.

And of course Michael Cappoini never misses a chance for some weekend fun, particularly when the cause is to celebrate his birthday. If you haven’t taken part in this annual celebration, prepare for some madness this year, as the theme will be “A Journey into the Rabbit Hole,” following a Mad Hatter’s theme. The festivities will take place at Thomas Kramer’s Star Island estate, and of course, RSVP is mandatory and strictly enforced. Check with rsvp@capponigroup.com to see if you are haute enough to slip down the rabbit hole with the Capponi Group.

The magic city isn't magical because of rabbits in hats or sawed off corpses; no, the Miami magic happens after the sun sets. And don't be fooled, getting in can be a practice in the art of magic as well; but as long as you're trying, here's where we recommend you spend your efforts. Good luck!
