Where the Beautiful People Play

On Thursday, the Windy City opened its doors to Beauty Bar, of NYC hipster fame. The ninth installment of the makeover series, Chicago scensters are sure to offer bumping beats, beautiful people, and a unique Midwest charm.

The Original Beauty Bar in the East Village has been serving up cocktails and musical throwbacks since 1995 in the former “Thomas Beauty Salon” space. Seeing its quirky potential, Paul Devitt magically transformed the 40-year-old blue-haired hangout into a one if a kind beauty “saloon” and then took his rockstar concept global. Beauty Bar has locations all across the West Coast, Vegas, and Austin.

The Chicago edition features a vintage 1965 salon interior including hair-dryer chairs personally driven all the way from New Jersey by Devitt himself. Taking over the enormous Sonoteque space (with a sound system to boot), he is partnering with Chicago locals Bruce Finkelman and Pete Toalson of Empty Bottle fame to give BB Chicago a truly original feel.

Beauty Bar promises to be an eclectic addition to the already kitschy UK village hood. On Friday, it’s Spandexxx night, featuring DJ Sadie Woods of White Label, and on Saturday, check out DJ Chuck English of the Cool Kids.

So pull out your curlers because let’s face it, anywhere you can get a martini with a side of manicure is okay with us.

Beauty Bar opened Thursday for the exclusive Vampire Weekend after party.

Beauty Bar is located at 1444 W Chicago Ave. in Chicago.
