In case you haven’t heard, The Sony Ericsson Open will take place in Miami on March 23 to April 4. And with that in mind, we would like to take a moment to tell you about an exciting, pre-tournament, event known as “Glam, Set, Match.”
Last year, “Glam, Set, Match” stopped traffic on Miami’s busiest street, Ocean Drive, and put Andy Murray and Venus Williams on top of two cars to play ‘Traffic Tennis,’ and 2010 this year’s tournament is set to kick off in an equally entertaining way.
This year’s “Glam, Set, Match” event is an exclusive mixed doubles exhibition that will partner two celebrities with two professional tennis players. Who are the four individual involved in this mix doubles exhibition? Representing the celebrity side will be Spice Girl and TV personality Mel B and Cash Money/Universal Republic recording artist Jay Sean. They will be paring up with Novak Djokovic (the No. 2 ranked men’s player), and ladies tennis star, Maria Sharpova.
The event will take place in front of a huge crowd at the home of Sony Ericsson Open, Crandon Park Stadium, where the two teams will battle it out for the “Glam, Set, Match” title.
“I’m so pleased to be playing with Novak Djokovic! We’ve got a super high chance of winning because even though I might not be technically that good, my drive will help get us there,” said Spice Girl Mel B.
“I don’t think you can do better than Maria Sharapova – to be honest, I think I’m going to let her do the majority of the work and I’ll just watch from the back! This is such a different vibe from what I normally do, it’s going to be great fun,” said Jay Sean.
“The event underpins Sony Ericsson’s commitment to bringing glamour and style to women’s tennis by sparking excitement around events like the Sony Ericsson Open, Miami,” according to a press release issued by Sony Ericsson.
If you’re in Miami March 23 to April 4, you are definitely going to want to score tickets for this event. It promises to be great fun in the sun. Tickets for the event can be purchased on the Sony Ericsson web site. We hope to see you there.
As MasterCard’s only U.S. blogger invited to participate in the brand’s “priceless” experience, the blogger program invites top international writers to attend the Sony Ericsson Open with VIP access to suites, top players and private Ericsson-sanctioned events.
“I think Miami is a very entertaining city, very multidimensional and you see a lot of people from different parts of the world coming here to support their tennis players."
