Get Ready for Some Tennis: Sony Ericsson Open Has Arrived
by Ebony Montenegro
Bring out your tennis gear because the Sony Ericsson Open has arrived. For the next two weeks prepare to enjoy a schedule full of nail biting tennis matches. From March 22 through April 4, the Sony Ericsson Open will be planted at the Crandon Park Tennis Center in Key Biscayne. The Sony Ericsson Open also continues its party tour, filled with an assortment of extra circular festivities like the FILA fashion show in Coconut Grove on Saturday, SEO tour at Sunset Place on the 26th, and of course the University of Miami pool party on the 28th.
The international competition attracts droves of celebrities and athletes every year. Already scheduled for March 27 are tennis pros Roger Federer and Serena Williams; both will be competing among the world’s top players consisting of 79 men and 76 women.
As the final qualifying rounds came to a close, Crandon Park looked more like an assembly of United Nations delegates; if the U.N. delegates were in top physical shape and tennis pros, of course.
Among the winners were Denis Istomin, Xavier Malisse (Belgium), Ryan Sweeting, Kevin Anderson (South Africa), Illya Marchenko (Ukraine), Marsel Ilhan (Turkey), dual Olympic gold medalist Nicolas Massu (Chile), former Australian Open finalist Rainer Schuettler (Germany), Ricardo Mello (Brazil), Santiago Giraldo (Colombia), Andrey Golubev (Kazakhstan), and Yen-Sun Lu (Chinese Taipei). These athletes won’t be resting on their laurels for long. It can be assured that as we speak each player is preparing their A game.
Breaking ticket sale records since its beginning 26 years ago, this is turning out to be a must see event for anyone in Miami. Keep checking in for the exact dates and times that your favorite players will be competing at www.sonyericssonopen.com.
