Get Ready For JFK Delays

The runway that handles nearly 40 percent of all traffic in and out of John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, including more than half of its departures, is scheduled to close today until late June. It is part of the Port Authority’s nearly $380 million reconstruction project, reports WNYC.

The shutdown of the Bay Runway (runway 13R-31L) means less flights out of New York on carriers like Delta and JetBlue, the potential for a backup ripple effect at other airports, and higher ticket prices. JetBlueAmericanDelta and other carriers have sliced schedules and are expected to raise prices due to there being less seats, reports the Boston Globe.
