Boat Show Sails Into Miami With Enthusiasm
by Sarah Locke

Put on your Dockers and Sperry Ellis because the 69th Annual Miami International Boat Show & Strictly Sail Miami will be sailing into town February 11. This year’s event is predicted to be a much-needed success, one that will put an end to all pessimism and negative criticism regarding the decline in boat sales during the last two years.

Every type of boat imaginable will be on display, offering you a peek into what it’s like to take a cruise on some of the hautest water vessels around. Powerboats, sailboats, motors, and all other accompanying electronic equipment and accessories will be there for attendees to admire, and hopefully purchase. Some of the ships are said to be listed at extremely discounted prices in hopes of getting more South Florida residents to either update their watercraft collection or to simply start a brand new one.

Despite talk of a weakened economy and even weaker boat sales, general sales manager at SunDance Marine dealership, Rick Levy told the Miami Herald the he feels it’s the perfect time to invest in all things marine. “People were waiting in line to look at boats at the New York show.” And he feels even more confident that potential sales will be up here because of the warm South Florida weather. “People in South Florida live here for outside activities and sun and fun, and there will be buyers,” Levy said. SunDance Marine will have more than 25 boats at this year’s show.

And yes, it’s true that the exhibition space is smaller than in years past. It’s also true that the number of boats on display and their related vendors are also fewer than before. But no matter what, optimism is key and there is certainly plenty of that surrounding this year’s show.

With all of these factors taken into consideration, it’s no wonder that people remain optimistic regarding the show despite others’ negative comments and criticisms. Yes, there may be some changes, and things may be on a much smaller scale, but who ever said change was a bad thing? Change is good at the 69th Annual Miami International Boat Show & Strictly Sail Miami. Make sure you have a chance to check out all the changes yourself and perhaps even sail away on a new toy. The event runs from February 11-15.
