Unholy Matrimony: A Whole New Meaning in LA
Unholy matrimony is a phrase that packs quite a punch these days, what with the political implications of Prop 8, the social implications of modern marriages, and the style implications of a new retail/art/performance shop opening on La Brea Ave at the end of this month. It will be called Case Study Unholy Matrimony.
Designer Brett Westfall, formerly of the Commes des Garcons Guerrilla store, alongside Amir Gharavi, designer of clothing line Case Study, plans to sell their own wares in the store as well as stock from Undercover, Sigi, Maison Martin Margiela, and Hussein Chalayan. But, in case shopping isn’t enough to whet your appetite any longer, the shop will also be home to a conceptual art and performance space.
The first art show the store has planned is “Voice of Nature,” which will include works by Westfall and local designer Joel Knoernschild. You can expect generally avant-garde stock considering the designers they’ve got, the store’s forthcoming location, and that they’ll have performance artists running around from time to time. Sounds like it all fits together. Kind of like love and marriage.
They’re having a kick off party on January 30 from 6 – 10pm, as well. A toast and welcome to the neighborhood!
Unholy Matrimony will be located at 138 – 140 N. La Brea Ave. and will be open from January 30, 2010.
