Royal Yacht Finds New Home
by Jillian Lobato
The 1930s classic racing yacht, Bloodhound, has a new home. This yacht that was built by Camper & Nicholson and launched in 1936 was listed for $2.99 million in 2005. In the 1960s, she was Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s personal vessel, and during their eight years of ownership, they often lend the yacht to sailing clubs for children. With its racing history having won the Fastnet race twice, this amazing work of art later went through a major refit that included renewing its frames, floors, and teak decks. Its topside plank was also later replaced with 500 feet of Honduras mahogany.
Well, the beauty has now been purchased by The Royal Yacht Britannia Trust and will be displayed alongside Britannia in Edinburgh, Scotland in April 2010. We know this will be quite the tourist exhibit.
