The Belgian-based Emocean Yacht Design unveiled a 200-meter gigayacht, which makes billionaire Roman Abramovich’s supposed “biggest yacht in the world–Eclipse” 30 meters smaller. This means the Emocean Yacht is now the world’s largest yacht, once it’s completed. This massive vessel contains all kinds of amenities, including a drive-in garage, two 30-meter day boats, helipad and hanger, a 30-meter swimming pool, a night club, casino, games room, two-story cinema, three beach clubs, and a health-spa! Sounds like a cruise ship, doesn’t it? It also somehow accommodates 10 VIP rooms, 22 guest suites, and a private owner’s deck for 45 passengers and 70 crew members. If that wasn’t enough to make jaws drop, Emocean is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 28 knots, a cruising speed of 20 knots, and a range of 6,500 nautical miles at cruising speed.
IWC has launched an iPhone application, available for free to download on iTunes. With this app, you can browse through IWC’s entire collection. There’s even a “try it on” function where you can hold the iPhone up to your wrist and virtually wear it, comparing through different models. Cute, huh? Another feature is that it lets you locate the closest IWC Boutique or Authorized Dealer near you, so that you can turn your “virtual” fashion fancy into reality as soon as possible.
The richest man in Russia, Mikhail Prokhorov is hoping to become the newest owner of the New Jersey Nets NBA franchise, but he is also planning to release a new car through Onexim Group. The ambitious tycoon’s project is reportedly an “advanced technology vehicle,” which can either mean that the car will be a hybrid or perhaps a completely electric ride.
His project will be built in Russia’s Yarovit Motors, and Onexim is putting down an estimated $141 million investment to get the project going. The ultimate goal is to put this vehicle on the road for the low price of $12,500 each, causing it to compete with brands like Volkswagen and General Motors.
Decadent, extravagant, and one of the most expensive ingredients in the world, the truffle is “the diamond of the kitchen,” according to the 18th-century French gastronome Brillat-Savarin. And indeed it is. Shaved and sliced over pasta, fish, foie gras, and even served in a dessert, this wild fungi is easy to find in New York restaurants, elevating dishes into a higher realm with its potent earthiness. With so many truffle dishes showing up on menus, it’s hard to think of them as a delicacy, but New Yorkers are lucky that way.
There are many varieties of truffles, ranging from the popular black to one of the most expensive: the white truffle from Alba, Italy, is so expensive that a 1.6-pound white truffle recently sold for $150,000 during the 79th White Truffle Festival in Alba, Italy. Fortunately, we can taste white truffles from Alba at three of New York’s finest restaurants. At venerable Gotham Bar & Grill, chef Alfred Portale serves it in his potato gnocchi with porcini emulsion while chef Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison Park shaves this rare truffle over tagliolini with parmigiano-reggiano for a decadent dish. Chef Michael White at Marea also serves the white truffles from Alba with pasta, in this case, tagliatelle.
The black truffle, not as over-the-top as the white truffle, is still a rare delicacy. Chef Humm is serving them with the foie gras, with sweetbreads, and the blue foot chicken. At Dovetail, they appear in a seafood dish crafted by chef John Fraser: the halibut confit with truffles from Burgundy. At SHO Shaun Hergatt, near the New York Stock Exchange, Nantucket Bay scallops are enhanced with black truffles.
The intense flavor of truffles is a natural accompaniment to the mildness of eggs. Tocqueville adds them to the creamy parmesan grits and sunny side up egg with house cured veal bacon, an appetizer that sounds perfect for brunch. Gotham Bar & Grill serves perigord truffles in the egg “cocotte.” But pasta seems the most popular dish for truffles: chef Sandro Fioriti shaves black truffles onto spaghetti, making a simple dish sophisticated.
And if all that weren’t decadent enough: the dessert menu at Gotham Bar & Grill features a Rome apple and black truffle tart tatin with vanilla yogurt ice cream and caramel sauce, a successful sweet/savory combination.
While truffles are being foraged in the wilds of Europe, all we New Yorkers have to do is make a reservation.

Count me among the Oprah fans heartbroken over the news that she will end her syndicated TV show next year and use the time to develop her own network. But when it comes to the Queen of Daytime TV, heck, we loyal servants are here to help.
Helpful hint #1: If you’re going to have a network named after yourself, you have to do it in the Land of Networks–Los Angeles. And as head of the Oprah Winfrey Network (Am I the only amused by the acronym OWN?), Oprah will have to leave those Chicago winters behind and come join us in the sunshine as well.
Of course she already owns an estate in Montecito. But as any honest GPS will tell her, you can’t get here from there–at least not on our gridlocked California highways. And helicoptering isn’t an answer either; our skies are just as crowded as our highways most mornings, filled largely with airborne traffic reporters.
The answer of course is that the Lovely Ms. O will need to find some suitable digs right here in the City of Angels. And for that, she’s come to the right place: We know celebrity homes.
My personal recommendation is that the chat show titan look at Candy Spelling’s Holmby Hills mansion. In fact, that’s precisely what the rumor du jour claims she has already done, although listing agent Jeff Hyland says he only wishes it was so. The Spelling manse–America’s most expensive residential listing at $150 million–would work perfectly as a 73,500-square-foot home-office for Oprah.
She could use the French chateau-style home much the same as her good pals (or now former good pals if you believe the tabloids), the Obamas, use the White House: Public rooms, private family suite, plenty of room for meetings with important guests and overnight accommodations for those who come from abroad–which in Los Angeles is anyone who doesn’t live in Malibu or the Platinum Triangle.
If Candyland is too much house for Oprah, there is also the Saperstein estate, priced at a more modest $125 million and on the market for even longer than Spelling’s place. The 45,000-square-foot estate in Beverly Hills, known as Fleur de Lys, took five years to build and is owned by Suzanne Saperstein, the ex-wife of Metro Networks founder David Saperstein.
It’s got the usual gold-embossed leather wall coverings and gold-leaf crown moldings, a ballroom with ceiling frescoes and a library filled with first editions, which presumably prove to prospective buyers that you can be both rich and smart, which Oprah clearly is. And the property has a ¾ mile jogging track, which the perpetually weight-watching Oprah might like.
My third offering is in a price class or six below that which makes headlines in the realty-osphere but is one of my favorite listings in Bel-Air. Owned by Ritz Carlton developer Mohamed Hadid, this Jerusalem-stoned property came on the market at $89 million but recently was dropped to a breath-stealing $72 million. And it’s move-in ready. Plenty of parking and customized Old World touches that scream “expensive” at you. Plus it’s been called one of the most romantic properties in the world, and as we know, even a network executive’s life can’t be all work, work, work.

If your fridge is looking sad and empty and you have no motivation to cook, then choose from among these take-away options. You’ll not only be satisfied, but surprised that a home-delivery option without the fun and flare of a fancy restaurant is possible in Dubai.
Oriental Kitchen
This restaurant promises a Pan-Asian experience, satisfying your oriental craving of the moment. Dominated by Chinese fare, don’t miss the “Hearts Desire” dim sum, which comes with six steamed parcels of delicate shrimp, chicken, and veggies served with a chilli/soy sauce on a trimmed bamboo leaf. Chicken and sweetcorn soup is another good one at once sweet, light, and energizing. You get lovely presentation and savory Asian cuisine when you order from Oriental Kitchen.
Thai Wok
This Al Barsha-based restaurant has been claimed to offer the best Thai food in Dubai. However, if you venture out to this joint located behind the Mall of Emirates, you will find a small space with two counters and no tables–certainly not endowed for a sit-in meal. Never be fooled by appearances. When you taste this food, you will not be disappointed. The little restaurant boasts of produce and chefs taken directly from Thailand, and you will believe it when you chow down onto the delicious spring rolls, curries, and prawn pad Thai. The bill is incredibly cheap, for two on average you’ll spend around 100 AED.
Marzano Restaurant
Marzano Restaurant is not your typical takeaway. Souk Al Manzil’s Marzano restaurant is challenging the traditional take-away meal by offering customers the chance to hire the restaurant’s kitchen staff in their very own home! Those interested should book an appointment at the restaurant for a free consultation where Marco Pucciarelli, the executive chef, asks discerning clients to fill out a questionnaire where he discovers their dietary likes and dislikes. Pucciarelli then creates a menu of starters, entrees, and desserts, and heads off the house or the chosen venue to prepare the meal. Included in the price are food, beverages, preparation, and presentation. Certainly a more costly form of takeaway, but a real treat at that!
Al Safadi Restaurant
With an excess of Lebanese restaurants, its often hard to know which one to choose from. One of the best Lebanese takeaways the city offers is Al Safadi, which has served cuisine from various regions of Lebanon for over 25 years. Get hot Manakeesh, Foul, Fried egg, Kishik, Zaatar, Falafel, Hommos, and delicious seafood featuring the “catch of the day” delivered straight to your door. Smoke Shisha while enjoying your food at the actual joint for a real Arabic experience.
Zaika Restaurant
Zaika Restaurant is a premier Indian restaurant located in the Murooj Rotana Hotel specializing in cuisine from North India. For starters, try the cachumber salad made with cucumbers and carrots diced into small pieces and served on a banana leaf. For the main course, try the shami kebabs, as they are crispy on the outside with a creamy puree filled with spices on the inside. Also, opt for the zesty red lamb chops. Ordering from Zaika will bring you elegantly prepared delicious Indian cuisine. It should be noted that the restaurant itself is also a lovely place to dine.

Since Asian culture is very much about sharing plates, they also have a few of those for you to try, such as the Satay of Chicken with Peanut Sauce and Sashimi of Kobe Beef with Fresh Wasabi Sauce. Both of these are delightful treats you should try.

For those days when you simply cannot be bothered with cooking or sitting down for a meal, we’ve scoured Miami to bring you the best and most delicious lineup of locales for delicious takeout in the Magic City.
Sosta Pizzeria & Enoteca
Calling all pizza snobs. For the most delicious and creative lineup of pies, Sosta’s pizza is the best. Our favorite is the Sicilina – anchovies, capers, black olives and basil. Amazzzing. This is not the place to make up your own concoction or to be picky about a particular ingredient, though. Give up your control issues for one meal and let someone who knows what they are doing surprise you with a fantastic pizza.
1025 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach; (305) 722-5454
Macaluso & Co.
Craving authentic Italian good enough for Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher? Macaluso’s has you covered. This restaurant epitomizes the Italians’ love for — and mastery of — savory, plentiful, down-home Staten Island-style food. To-go orders are a bold and flavorful and portions are huge. For some serious Italian comfort food, order the rigatoni and broccoli rabe. There are also delicious desserts ranging from homemade anisette cookies to gooey pastries.
1747 Alton Road, Miami Beach; (305) 604-1811
Joe’s Takeaway
When you’ve got seafood on the brain, Joe’s Takeaway, next door to Joe’s Stone Crab, has you covered. Joe’s reels in only the freshest, meatiest stone crabs and their essential accouterments: creamed spinach and excellent sweet-potato fries. The claws come in medium, large, and jumbo. Whatever you decide on, make sure you pair them with a savory mustard sauce (a perfect mix of mayo and mustard) or hot butter. Not into crab? The fried chicken and liver and onions on the regular menu are amazing. And don’t even get us started on the deserts. The Key lime pie here is the best in town.
11 Washington Ave., South Beach, (305) 673-0365
Graziano’s Pizzeria offers guests an option for last-minute eating. While the wood-oven baked pizzas are specialties of the house (choose from more than 15), don’t neglect its ultra-fresh salads, Spanish tapas and Italian artisan ice cream flavors that range from mango to mint chocolate to dulce de leche for dessert. Now that’s la dolce vita…
9209 Southwest 40th St., Miami; (305) 225-3696
China Grill
Nothing screams takeout like Chinese. If you’re craving Asian fusion that is good change from the ordinary, hit up China Grill. While it’s not your traditional Chinese food, it definitely has the elements of a fusion-cuisine that is, in a word, delectable. Some of the standout dishes include Duck Two Ways, Pan Seared Spicy Tuna, Duck Fried Rice and Cheesecake Wonton Desert.
