Let’s Get Physical: The Haute 5 Fitness Clubs in San Francisco
by Angela Tafoya

They say there is no better time than the New Year to seek the calendar change as a chance to reform bad tendencies. Every year, we make these mistakes, and year after year, most of us find ourselves making the same promises: lose weight, get in shape, and work out more. Variations of this commitment seem to litter the seemingly endless list of New Year’s Resolutions. We are well into the middle of January and for many of you, perhaps your resolutions have fizzled out just as quickly as that bottle of New Years champagne. However, there’s no need to panic. They also say there is no time like the present. It only seems fitting that we have rounded up five of San Francisco’s top gyms and fitness centers, so that you can get into, and stay in shape all year round.

The San Francisco Bay Club
Giving San Franciscans the ultimate gym experience, The San Francisco Bay Club is one of the Bay Area’s most exclusive fitness centers. You can work out in style with its spacious and clean facilities. This posh fitness palace is much more than just a spot to pump iron. The Bay Club features two pools, tennis and squash courts, a sundeck, cardio and weight machines, in addition to its acclaimed yoga (they have three yoga rooms) and Pilates program.

San Francisco Bay Club is located at 150 Greenwich St., San Francisco, CA., (415) 433.2200.

Equinox Fitness
They had us at “eucalyptus towels.” Beautiful, well maintained, and conveniently located, Equinox Fitness (former Pacific Stock Exchange building) features state-of-the-art cardio and strength equipment, swimming pools, juice bars, a wide range of classes, and much more. Upon entering, the aroma of lavender and eucalyptus fills the air (perfect after-work aromatherapy). Its zen-like atmosphere provides top of the line services and facilities. All of the equipment is brand new, so you’ll never get bored with them. You can even use your iPhone to check in! This high-end gym provides a clean and luxurious atmosphere to get in shape in style.

Equinox Fitness is located at 301 Pine St., San Francisco, CA., (415) 593.4000.

The Sports Club/LA
Sports Club/LA in San Francisco will leave you star-struck. If it isn’t the full bar serving post-work beers that lures you in, maybe the luxury salon providing facials and manicures will do the trick. With its 127,000 square feet fitness center, this premiere work out haven provides nutrition courses, life coaching, private training, and is within walking distance of the Four Seasons. Additional amenities include a boxing studio, retail area, Olympic size pool, and volleyball courts.

The Sports Club/LA is located at 747 Market St., San Francisco CA., (415) 633.3900

Diakadi Body
For those who are looking to work out “outside the box,” head to Diakadi Body. Designed by a broad range of high-skilled fitness and wellness professionals, Diakadi Body offers a more personal one-on-one approach to working out. Diakadi Body delivers high-level customer service, individual attention, and cutting edge machines. Each patron is assigned their own personal trainer at all times, eliminating waits for equipment usage. The 9,000 square-foot facility provides a bright and airy clean space with a diverse group of customers.

Diakadi Body is located at 290 Division St., Ste 200., San Francisco, CA (415) 863.4922.

Club One
Located in one of San Francisco’s most sought after neighborhoods, fitness fans flock to Club One, Nob Hill. The quaint gym, uniquely situated in the Fairmont Hotel offers a full-service luxury spa, in addition to an outdoor pool, massage therapy, towel service, and Pilates. The smaller gym is rarely overcrowded and provides the perks of the Fairmont (the valet, front desk staff). You can gaze out into the scenic Nob Hill while enjoying a luxurious work out. After, you can head to the Expressions Café for a smoothie or healthy treat.

Club One, Nob Hill is located at 950 California St., San Francisco, CA (415) 834.1010.
