Be Scene: The Haute 5 Nightclubs in NYC

Velvet ropes, door men, models, celebs, paparazzi, wafting Chanel No. 5 and red lipstick against a mirrored wall, waitresses parading Dom Perignon with a flood of sparklers and revelry music, the soft effervescence of bourbon on fresh ice in a chilled glass… Haute 5 presents the hottest NYC Nightclubs and where to get what you always dreamed of…

Top of the Standard (AKA Boom Boom Room)
The Boom Boom Room created quite the stir from the onset. With cream colored leather banquettes, golden fireplaces, and starburst chandeliers, Architect Andre Balazs created a 70s throwback haven for his Rolodex of a star studded A-list cast. Opening in September 2009 with guests Madonna, Jude Law, Lindsay Lohan, Josh Harnett, and more, it’s acclaimed as the new Studio 54.

Waitresses dressed like flight attendants and waiters with handlebar mustaches serve perfectly chilled gimlets. The Room soars at only 18 floors above the Meatpacking District with 360-degree views of Manhattan and the Hudson River.  Insiders know that the most intriguing view is through the floor to ceiling windows in the gilded lavatories.

Top of the Standard (AKA Boom Boom Room) is located at 848 Washington St., New York, NY. For more information, call (212) 645-4646.

1Oak
Pass beneath the auspices of a taste discriminating doorman named Binn into an air reminiscent of the days when it wasn’t the quick flash of plastic that would get you past the velvet threshold, but a discrete nod of approval.

Check your topcoat. Settle with a fresh glass of Dom near the roaring fireplace and over-sized Roy Nachum masterpieces. Notice an A-list and celebrity crowd crossing the zigzag black and white floors, passing along the gold leaf etched walls, and settling into the padded ostrich leather banquettes. Weekends are full, but Thursday nights are known by insiders.

1Oak is located at 453 West 17th St., New York, NY. For more information, call (212) 242-1111.

Avenue
Around the corner from 1 Oak is Noah Teppenburg and Jason Strauss’s gemstone Avenue. Take a stroll down the narrow boulevard of celebrity-lined tables that include Madonna, Larry Gogsian, and Marc Jacobs, just to name a few. Pulse thumping sensations from the DJ booth raise the evening’s visions to the awe inspiring sparkler filled ceilings. Teppenburg and Strauss of Strategic Group are considered the most successful NYC nightlife entrepreneurs since Ian Schrager and Steve Rubel.

Avenue is located at 116 10th Ave., New York, NY. For more information, call (212) 337-0054.

Provocateur
Swanky and petite, guests lounge on large purple banquettes, tromp l’oeil backdrops, and Victorian print finishes set beneath a 20-foot wide set of billowing angel wings. This revitalization effort for the Gansevoort Hotel aims to give the Standard’s Boom Boom Room a run for its money. Creative drinks made with Borba cosmetics allow jet-setting clientele to worry less on their beauty sleep and more on their sex appeal from the revitalizing effects of the drinks’ beautifying crystals. To further spice up the evening, customers can rent stripper poles that is installed table side, convenient for an uninterrupted bottle service.

Provocateur is located at 18 9th Ave., New York, NY. For more information, call (212) 929-9036.

Simyone Lounge (AKA SL)
Kicking off their launch party last Fall during NYC Fashion Week with the Charlotte Ronson’s S/S 2010 after-party, SL set a tone of UES-made meets downtown chic.  Among Balenciaga booties, Chanel Mademoiselle bags, and Ray Bans, guests enjoy Martini sips in a room of rock and mirror walls to the beat of electro-house and hip-hop mixes. Sightings include Ashton Kutcher, Mischa Barton, Avril Lavigne, and Elle McPherson.

SL is located at 409 W 14th St., New York, NY. For more information, call (646) 289-3940.
