Sotheby’s recently sold a Silver Punch Bowl crafted by Cornelius Kierstede in New York between 1700 and 1710. It was originally predicted to go for anywhere between $400 and $800,000. However, bidding opened at $275,000! It started going higher and higher and ended with a mystery collector purchasing the piece for a whopping $5,906,500. The silver punch bowl, which was a part of Sotheby’s sale of Important Americana, descended from the family of Commodore Joshua Loring in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, the Loring-Greenough House, which is now being preserved as a historic site.
