How Much is That Puppy in the Window?

The blizzard that put a damper on travel plans for thousands of holiday travelers this past weekend has also put a halt on new homes for some San Francisco hounds. Packs of Chihuahuas who have been discovered abandoned in the City by the Bay were well on their way to new East Coast doghouses until the storm hit. Operation Chihuahua intended to fly San Francisco’s abandoned pups to New York. But then Mother Nature stepped in and thousands of human air passengers whose flights had been canceled due to the storm now needed the plane space. According to reports, SF Animal Care and the New York ASPCA have been trying to negotiate the airlift with Virgin America, led by our own Haute Living cover profile, Sir Richard Branson, but it looks like it will now have to wait until early January. What this means is that the excess of San Francisco Chihuahuas are still hanging around and might make the most perfect holiday present for that special someone. The shelter at 1200 15th St. will be open between noon and 6 p.m. daily, with an early closing of 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
