First Lady Named Most Fascinating
by Sarah Locke

The suspense was killing me. Well, not really, but I was somewhat curious about who Barbara Walters was going to name as the most fascinating person of the year. Oh lord, as long as it wasn’t going to be Oprah was all I kept saying. But now that Walters named first lady Michele Obama as the most supreme female of 2009, I can sleep a little better. Mrs. Obama has surely had one heck of a crazy year. Moving into the white house, settling the entire family in, traveling nonstop, and of course, offering never ending support to her presidential husband. I’m exhausted just thinking about it. I do believe that is what you call multi-tasking to the absolute extreme. Walters sat down with Mrs. Obama in an attempt to pick the first lady’s brain and to find out just how she feels about her busy role. In the interview, the first lady described her favorite way to unwind: sitting on the couch with the family dog Bo, while mindlessly flipping through television channels.

“A lot of, you know, shows about food and design, and all that good stuff. And it’s just quiet, and I’m not thinking about anything for that second-not about the kids, not about my husband, not about my schedule. If I get an hour of that during the course of a week, it feels like heaven,” she says.

I myself stay busy, whether it’s because of working, running errands, going to the gym or whatnot, but I cannot even imagine only getting an hour of couch time throughout an entire week.  My hat’s off to Mrs. Obama for sure. And with everything else she has accomplished and worked on within the last year, I think Walters made a fantastic choice.
