Bulgari Jewels Find a Home Just in Time for the Holidays

After a yearlong fundraising initiative and a five-month international tour that began with a private reception at the Roman Il Palazzo delle Esposizioni and continued on to Shanghai, London, Los Angeles, and Miami, Bulgari’s collection of 18 signature pieces finally found their way to Christie’s New York last night.

The whirlwind tour of the collection was all part of Bulgari’s efforts to support the Save the Children Rewrite the Future Campaign, as part of its 125-year anniversary celebration. And rewrite the future the certainly did. The auction, comprised of 11 one-of-a kind jewelry creations and seven limited edition timepieces, raised enough funds to put Bulgari’s total contribution to Save the Children at more than $9 million.

Mr. Nicola Bulgari arrived with wife Beatrice Bulgari, who was adorned in a Lanvin dress, Miu Miu pumps, and Bulgari accessories. In an interview with Haute Living’s on-site reporter, Mr. Nicola Bulgari emphasized that the key to sustaining and thriving 125 years in the luxury industry is “adjusting to the times and innovation—relentlessly.” He stated, “I’m very proud to be in the partnership with Save the Children. It’s a reason to look forward to 2010.”

Red carpet celebrity appearances were made by Ricky Martin who sauntered in with model Ester Canadas. He spun Ester, flashed the Save the Children Bulgari Sterling Silver Ring along with a smile to the roaring photographers. Actress Morgan Fairchild greeted the media with timely elegance and grace while actress Jessica Lange and actress Rose Byrne were polite but made haste to the festivities inside.

Guests in chinchilla stoles and exotic skin accessories flashed their favorite Bulgari pieces to one another and mingled among delicate mannequin busts showcasing the collection. Once the hammer banged, fast-paced card flashing began. The Lucea, a diamond choker previously worn by Gisele Bundchen, quickly sold for $270,000. A multi-colored sapphire and diamond necklace mounted on 18-carat gold was purchased for $350,000.

In less than 60 minutes, Bulgari raised a total of $1,546,500 for the organization that  is dedicated to providing quality education to 8 million children living in conflict-affected areas. There will be more than one celebrating this holiday season.
