Rare Green Diamond to Rock Sotheby’s Auction
by Malika Bierstein

The cliché “green with envy” just took on a whole new meaning, or it will, for whoever is lucky enough to snag the largest green diamond ever to appear at an auction on November 17 at the Hotel Beau Rivage.

The vivid-green cushion-shaped 2.52 carat rock with a modified brilliant cut comes with a hefty price tag as well—expecting to draw between $3.1 and $5.1 million—and is sure to attract rare jewelry aficionados from around the globe. So if you happen to be of the class who appreciates the finer blings in life and can afford to make this spectacular piece a permanent part of your collection, you may want to jet over to Geneva for a closer look. The combined exclusivity of the color’s natural origin and saturation make it an extremely rare occurrence in nature, so it isn’t likely you’ll see one on your neighbor anytime soon.

Featuring a blinding assortment of unique natural blue, green, and pink diamonds, among other historical jewels from Mary, Duchess of Roxburghe and Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, the sale is expected to rake in an astounding excess of $29.5 million. It will also feature signed pieces from Van Cleef & Arpels, Harry Winston, Tiffany & Co, Boucheron, Bulgari and M. Gérard, to name a few.
