Not Your Mother’s Yams
by Nicole Campoy-Leffler

Grocery stores have been stuffing Halloween and Thanksgiving down our throats since mid-August and yet they still somehow arrive unexpectedly.  With Halloween securely behind us, Thanksgiving Thursday is staring us down all by it’s lonesome – well, at least until the city’s pumpkin patches start selling Christmas Trees.  It can be difficult to know just what to do for Thanksgiving, and in the event that you’d rather leave the turkey carving to a professional this year, we’ve rounded up a slew of delectable options.

Any restaurant situated next door to La Brea Bakery is a step ahead of the pack.  Campanile has their traditional Thanksgiving menu on offer again this year including a Mushroom Barley Soup, Warm Vegetable Salad, and a Rosemary Charred Breast of Turkey, among other savory and sweet options on a set menu.  Deciding between the Pumpkin Ice Cream Pie and the Spiced Apple Bundle might prove to be the biggest challenge of a holiday meal for you and your family.

Taking advantage of where you live is always an attractive option for celebrating the holidays, especially in the sunny climate of LA.  Both Casa del Mar and Shutter’s in Santa Monica have restaurants with Thanksgiving day, three-course set menus that will make you that much more thankful for the beach.  FIG restaurant in the Fairmont Miramar, also with a covetable view of the water, will likewise have a Thanksgiving Day menu that, for four-courses, is a steal at $58 per person.

If it doesn’t feel like the holidays until someone’s screaming expletives, you may want to head over to Gordon Ramsay at the London West Hollywood for a Roasted Organic Turkey with a side of Pumpkin Veloute infused with Truffle, Foie Gras and Game Terrine, or just some of Ramsay’s attitude.  Finished off with his Chestnut Souffle with Chocolate Ice Cream, we can all agree that all’s well that ends well, right?
