Michael Bay Transforms into Bel Air
by Erika Thomas
Bel Air seems like quite a humdrum neighborhood for megawatt action director to put down roots, but of course Michael Bay’s purchase of this plethora of pads comes with a twist. Apparently, he has plans involving the property’s destruction and resurrection. Currently, the almost-5 acre lot has 3 individual units; totaling 7 br/7.5 ba. There is the main residence, with two bedroom suites, staff quarters, and wonderful city views; then three additional separate stand-alone staff quarters making up the additional bedroom count. Amidst these structures lie a sunken tennis court and pool. Bay purchased the home(s) for a total of $10,900,000.
Previous owner was the now-deceased Marion Jorgensen, who was married to producer Milton Bren in a galaxy far, far away; known simply as Old Hollywood. The property is a throwback to that galaxy and has to do significantly with the peculiar layout. A 1951 contemporary, the one story home is supposedly facing a fate of bulldoze in favor of something far more ostentatious and Bay-ish.
Among the new neighbors: Salma Hayek, Elizabeth Taylor, Cheryl Tiegs, and Joe Francis.
Also ironic, this is Bay’s second Bel Air purchase, and he has a third L.A. gem in Brentwood. Still up for grabs is Bay’s Miami purchase—a $18.9 million 11 br/11.5ba waterfront estate he snagged from Hulk Hogan yet ultimately suffered buyer’s remorse.
