Leading the Future by Example
by Jillian Lobato

We at Haute Living believe that any good cause is a worthy cause. The Dalai Lama once said,  “I have found that the greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love and compassion. The more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being. Cultivating a close, warm-hearted feeling for others automatically puts the mind at ease. It is the ultimate source of success in life”. Kids Off Streets, also known as K.O.S (pronounced kay-os) is a non-profit organization that focuses on active and healthy lifestyles for kids. They would like to bring forth happiness and peace to others by coming together in the spirit of the holidays to give back to the children of Boys Town of South Florida.

Originally founded in Miami, FL, Kids Off Streets provides the resources for kids to have the opportunity to pursue their dreams. They promise to inspire children to take that step forward in a positive and healthy direction. Being that 2010 will be the charity’s inaugural year, they are swiftly networking with South Florida’s media and political influences to begin working with the youth through sports, dance, creative arts and anything which promotes their pursuit of happiness.

“Last year we were able to get funding assistance from Miami-Dade public schools for their basic necessities (tooth brushes, deodorant, etc) for the holidays, but due to budget cuts, they did not participate this year,” said co-founder Norlan Delgado.  “Since my charity is about promoting positive and healthy lifestyles for kids, we’re taking the initiative to fill that void and assist in raising funds and items for the kids by having an event at “Cavas” in South Miami (by Sunset Mall) on December 11th.” The event will be set up for raffles, silent auctions, and more. Their goal is to raise enough funds to be able to give each child a gift basket with basic necessities and presents. On December 20th, Kids Off Streets will go to Boys Town and have a Christmas dinner for the children including their gifts and necessities.

Their website will be launched on January 1st, in hopes to emulate Boys Town, a prime example of an organization they would like to contribute to and help. Boys Town of South Florida is a beacon of hope for America’s children and families through its life-changing youth and health care programs across the United States. This organization has provided shelter, food, love and education to orphans in Miami for many years.

The organization Kids Off Streets will present an an exciting evening next month (we’ll keep you posted with the location and details) that will include a silent art auction with paintings donated by internationally known artist Karen Flint.
