Haute Opening: The Crosby Street Hotel
by Alison Agudo

Privately owned by husband and wife team, Tim and Kit Kemp, Firmdale Hotels has opened its first hotel in the United States, The Crosby Street Hotel. Located in SoHo between Prince, Spring, and Lafayette streets, the luxurious European style hotel brings with it a long standing reputation for impeccable personal service. The Kemps London’s properties continue to top Conde Nast Traveler’s hot list for both the US and the UK, and it’s expected that The Crosby Street Hotel will quickly follow suit.

Kit Kemp was responsible for the interior design of the swank new hotel, as well as all other design responsibilities for the luxury group’s various other hotels. Kemp elegantly transferred over her trademark “quirky London style” to the Crosby Street Hotel which was laboriously built from the group up on the site of a previously vacant parking lot.

The hotel’s 86 individually designed rooms and suites are spread over 11 luxurious floors, each featuring floor-to-ceiling warehouse windows providing copious amounts of natural sunlight—something New Yorker’s don’t often get to experience. All of the usual luxury hotel amenities come with the rooms, including high-end linens, Wi-Fi, flat screen TV’s, and IPod docking stations.

In the public areas of the hotel, unique features are available including: The Crosby Bar which stretches and incredible entire city block, an advanced 99 seat screening room with orange leather Poltrona Frau chairs, a private courtyard garden, and an exceptional personally-selected art collection featuring pieces such as a 10-foot high Juame Plensa sculpture, oil paintings by Francois Bard, and a Peter Clark dog collage, among others.

As one of the United States’ most environmentally friendly hotels, staying here won’t just guarantee a good night’s sleep, it will also give you a good conscious. Guests are also privy to a fragrance specifically created for the hotel by renowned British perfumer Lyn Harris which is featured in all of the hotel’s toiletries for guests.

The Crosby Street Hotel is currently offering a special opening rate starting at $495 per night, but regular prices start at $525 a night.
