Haute Expectations: Art Basel at the Gansevoort South
by Alison Agudo

Haute Living is buzzing in anticipation of this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach and we’re not alone. As Miami prepares for what many believe to be the event of the season, hotels are trying to keep up with the demand after a slow and painful year of low occupancies.

Many hotels in Miami will be offering special Art Basel promotions and with close proximity to their competition, hotels on the beach will be crossing their fingers that their deals with entice the masses.
The Gansevoort South is one of these hotels banking on Art Basel to give itself a profit boost. As an extremely large hotel (read: many rooms) located right smack in the middle of South Beach’s busiest areas and beaches, the hotel is only a few blocks from Lincoln Road and is hoping it’s location and stylish appeal will make it a first choice for art lovers. The Gansevoort South will be hosting a slew of events for Art Basel including: Pulse Art Fair, Pulse Happy House for exhibitors and VIPS, Pulse Wrap Party, Surface Lounge, and Surface Closing Party.

If you’re looking to be a part of the Gansevoort’s celebrations, don’t expect to get the cheapest rooms that were available from the promotion—they are already sold out. They do have an Ocean View Kings room available for $475 a night, with either a 3- or 4-night minimum stay. While some may find this pricey, the deal also includes complimentary parking, WiFi, and a copy of USA Today. If, however, you’re not planning on spending that many nights there, but you’re set on staying at the semi-new Gansevoort South, there are other deals (such as those found online) for Art Basel dates that go for $537 a night. If you prefer more personalized and direct service, using the Gansevoort’s website will jump those rates up to $636 a night.

According to reports, the hotel’s (very) long-awaited restaurant, STK, will be opening in time for Art Basel, however there’s only one way to find out for sure, and that’s be there. So we’re not recommending you making your plans according to the potential restaurant opening, but rather the spectacular Art Basel that will be surrounding the hotel providing you with things to do and see every minute of the day.
