Eco-Friendly Meets Luxury in Napa Valley Hotel
by Ebony Montenegro

Going green just got a little better. Napa Valley is renowned as a great vacation spot for vineyards and wine tasting, but now MTM’s Luxury Lodging’s new Bardessono Hotel in Yountville, California seeks to bring another association to mind…eco-friendly!

A few years ago eco-friendly was not a word that would immediately suggest luxury. Images of burlap clothing worn with broken-in Birkenstocks, organic whole grain food and make shift huts seemed to fit better. Thanks to technology and a vast amount of creativity in more recent years going green has found a way to bring the best of both worlds together.

Entering the Bardessono Hotel, with its sleek, modern design; elegant décor and modern amenities one would not guess that this hotel boasts to be the “greenest luxury hotel in America”. Greenest being the key word here, yet somehow they managed.

Named after the Bardessono family and built on the five acres of the land they formally owned, the property is sectioned into small buildings, each only two stories high.  The resort has taken several eco-friendly initiatives in creating this Napa Valley oasis, such as the LEED certification, controls to turn off the lights once one leaves the room, and an organic garden for the restaurant’s produce – which invites a new level of freshness to dining.

Electricity is provided by solar panels that cover all the rooftops, and a geothermal system provides the heating and cooling. However, one would not even know that the chic tiles laid throughout the rooms are more of an energy saver than a design choice.

It is no surprise then that the entire restoration was constructed from recycled and salvaged material, some even from the original Bardessono buildings.

The rooms offer a great amount of space including balconies, modern fireplaces, sleek bathrooms with custom tubs and steam showers, and best of all, his–and-hers sinks.  The modern, clean design suggests a tranquil Napa sanctuary, while the modern amenities such as wireless service, automated toilets and in-room spa beds make the resort a perfect location for a California getaway.
