Race for the Cure Hits the Ground Running in Miami
Lace up those pink sneakers and get ready to run, walk (or even sleep) for a cause this Saturday at Bayfront Park for the 14th Annual Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Kicking off with a Survivor Procession and Ceremony (including a surprise celebrity guest) at 7:30am, the 5k co-ed race is the perfect opportunity for you to do your part in the fight against breast cancer.
If you’re looking for a fun, meaningful way to spend the morning with your kids (and get a little exercise) in the warm South Florida sunshine, check out the One Mile Fun Run and Tot Run, which features short-distance tracks for little legs. The Kid’s Zone tent, chock-full of fun games, face painting, prizes, and a bounce house is a great reward for their valuable contribution, and is sure to burn whatever energy they may have left.
According to the National Cancer Institute, an estimated 192,370 women and 1,910 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2009 (yes, men can get it too), possibly even you or someone you love. With more than 15,000 sponsored participants and 800 breast cancer survivors expected to take part in this year’s race, you don’t want to be left out of this phenomenal event. There are currently over 2.5 million survivors in the United States. Do your part to continue to help raise this number.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure is dedicated to saving lives and ending breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Since its inception in 1996, the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Race For the Cure and the Affiliate has raised more than $8 million and reached hundreds of thousands of women and men in educational outreach through grassroots efforts.
