Introducing the New Haute 100
by Stephanie Wilson
For the two-year anniversary of Haute Living New York, we introduced our Haute 100 list, a compilation of the city’s most powerful individuals. From noted philanthropists to the Big Apple’s originators and entertainers, the list provided a thorough cross-section of the people who run this town. So for our third anniversary, we thought it appropriate to revamp the list. While copies of the magazine are still in the midst of being shipped to the most exclusive addresses in Manhattan, you can check out the complete list here.
While a few individuals fell off our ranking from last year (such as the Clintons, who moved to Washington for Hillary’s job as the Secretary of State), we are pleased to add a number of fresh faces to the list, including producer Swizz Beatz, Loren & JR Ridinger, Alicia Keys, and Stewart Rahr. We also added the “Dynasties” category, which was awarded to the Vanderbilts and Rockefellers—give it a few generations, and the Trumps may make it into this category. As for now, Ivanka makes up ½ of a Power Couple, while the rest of the Trump clan falls under “Originators.”
We are also sad to report that Haute 100-er Bruce Wasserstein died on October 14, after being hospitalized earlier this week for an irregular heartbeat. Wasserstein fell under the category of “Entrepreneurs” in our Haute 100 listing, and we described him as a financial wizard who also is the owner of the venerable New York magazine. In 2009, it looked like he was going to add Business Week to his portfolio, but decided against making a final bid in September. Our thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.
