Chopard, being the long-time sponsor of the Italian road-race called the Mille Miglia, outfits each participant with an individually engraved timepiece from his or her racing-inspired line. The newest watch to the Mille Miglia line is the Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono 2009 featuring a natural black rubber strap with the 1960’s Dunlop Racing tire-tread motif. The 44mm stainless steel case, in GT XL style, immediately stands out due to its 18 karat rose gold bezel and its DLC (diamond-like carbon) making it as tough as steel. It’s simply a vision of sports luxury.

Chopard is limiting this timepiece collection to a privileged group of only 500 people. Like other Miglia Mille watches, there is white outlined numeral work under the sapphire crystal subtlety done only on the 12 and six o’clock indicators. The chronograph pushers, hands on the dial, and the crown are also done in 18 karat rose gold. For increased legibility, there’s a reverse mounted magnifier placed under the crystal for the date window and the chronograph subdial rings and hour indicators are painted with SuperLumiNova for a three-dimensional quality.

The contrast between the warm-colored case and the black strap only exudes elegance. Guaranteed to pass the test of time, it’s also water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters. The Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono is chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), which is viewable through the beautifully decorated sapphire case back. Chopard has priced this piece at $10,580.
