Canada’s Most Expensive Residence
by Alison Agudo

Last month saw the sale of the most expensive home in Canada as a luxury compound named Falkridge, located in the Calgary region, sold for $13.1 million. The beautiful estate did not take long to break the record either—the home was only on the market for a few weeks before being scooped up.

In an unusual twist for the hard economic times, the home was actually listed for $12.9 million, but an unnamed oil and gas tycoon from Calgary made it his own for $13.1 million. He bought it from a U.S.-based manufacturing company, although the home originally belonged to, and was built for, the Smed family of Calgary.

The opulent compound is 27,000 square feet of land with the main residence measuring in at 15,000 square feet. The Canadian jewel features seven suites, industrial chef kitchen, dining room, lounge, and a media room large enough to comfortably accommodate more than 20 people. The separate 12,000-square-foot guest house is a magnificent addition to the estate as it features six separate suites, a lounge with a fireplace, and a training and conference area suitable for any visitors needs.
