Time is Money at Rolex

A recent sale at the watch auction house Antiquorum bought in a world-record $8.5 million. The auction, Revolution: The Evolution of the Rolex Sport Watch, commemorated the brand’s 100th anniversary and saw the sale of many notable timepieces. In total, the auction broke nine world records.

Hot sellers included a pair of highly prized 1967 Sea-Dweller Submariners that sold for $237,600 each and a 1973 Submariner issued to the British military that fetched $166,800. The top price was paid for a rare 1979 “Comex” model Sea-Dweller, which realized $248,000. While collectors certainly paid a premium for historical value, some of the most attractive watches failed to hit six figures. The super-stylish version of the Explorer, known as the “Straight Hand Steve McQueen,” went for a more modest $40,800, although still a significant sum for this model.

The sale clearly went well with enthusiasts clamoring over these collectibles from one of the most well-respected watchmakers in the world.
