Mikimoto million-dollar necklace is a real pearl

The pearls – 27 of them in total – are a sight to behold, as each measures 5.06 X 17.24 mm in diameter, and take more than ten years to complete. The clasp, oval in shape and art deco in design, features 11.92 carats of diamonds, the perfect addition to this fanastic piece of jewelry.
K. Mikimoto & Co., Ltd. is the company founded by Mikimoto Kokichi, a Japanese entrepreneur who invented and perfected the first technique for the commercial production of cultured pearls. Mikimoto, who died in 1954 at the age of 96, was posthumously awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Sacred Treasure, a Japanese decoration awarded for long and meritorious service.
